Not a professional tool, but quite well made. The slotted blade is metal which is a bit improvement on most cheap insertion tools. It has done the job I bought it for and looks as though it will do some more.Recommended if it is not for regular use.

I don't know if it's my particular phone socket, or if i just received a dodgey tool, but this wouldn't insert the extension wires for me.
A) The groove in the end wasn't deep enough so it couldn't push the wires right down in to the terminals
B) The wires were sliding up the space in between the metal and the plastic housing.

I went and routed out an old plastic IDC (one of the disposable ones) and that did the job first time.

Bought this so that I could fit a new faceplate to my ADSL phone socket, and it does the job of inserting the wires just how it should. No mishaps or struggling, just works.

although many people will see this product and feel yes we need an IDC insertion tool
but do we really need one?
if you are using this just for a one off use or possibly 2, then you can just use a thin screw driver and a sharp knife to push the cable into place and trim the excess with a knife.
if you are gong to use this for lots more, then you will need a better and a professional version of this.
i biught one and it has never been used.

A great little tool. Very easy to use and does the job. The wire stripper on the side is a useful addition to the tool.

I needed this tool as I had to change my BT phone socket. The insertion tool tip is too deep and does not push the wire deep enough. I cut a small piece out of an old credit card which did the trick. I would not recommend this product.

This tool was delivered in only 2 days, well ahead of the estimated time. I used it to install the wiring on a telephone socket and chose to remove the insulation on the wires before inserting with this tool to ensure a good connection. When using check each wire after insertion as it is possible to push down without the wire going fully down, particularly with small wires. If this happens simply repeat the insertion using the tool. I believe with its plastic construction it is best suited for occasional use by an amateur rather than for a full time professional application. Why 5 stars? This tool does the job for very little outlay and represents great value for money.

Having ordered a new telephone socket (IDC terminals) and a broadband filter faceplate to fit, this item came up as being possibly required.

Don't bother buying it. The metal section (shown in the picture) that is supposed to push the wire down into the terminal is chamfered to the extent that it doesn't push the wire into the IDC "fingers" but just slides down past the wire instead. In the end, I ferretted around and found my network idc wiring tool (much used) and did the job straightaway. I can't be bothered to send it back at the price I paid. Even the all- plastic tools you get in extension wiring kits work better than this.
