Based purely on my experience, Starlings have the ability to sniff these out from quite a distance and descend in hoards onto any feeder in which these dried mealworms are placed, staying until they have eaten the lot, which is not very long. They clearly love them, as do any other birds that manage to get a look in.
I tend to place the dried worms on a ground feeder so that all bird types have the opportunity to feed. I have tried one of the special covered mealworm holders that had a mesh surround meant to prevent Starlings feeding, but the Starlings around here were clever enough to work out that if they all landed on one side, the feeder tilted and they were then able to reach the worms, albeit feeding at a slightly slower rate.
It is possible to buy live mealworms but having tried that once, I decided I am not keen on having to look after death-row inmates and I now only buy them dried. The birds seem to like them dried just as much as those that are fresh, so have not petitioned for a change back again.

Just ordered a new bag of mealworms for my birds again! The first bag I bought back in February has lasted me three months. However I don't put out mealworms daily for my birds - I tend to keep them as a treat every now and again. The price is still amazing for the quantity you are buying and wouldn't shop anywhere else for mealworms! Speedy delivery once again, 10/10 for Amazon :)

Edit: I would like to add that since writing this review I have seen the same quantity of mealworms in a well known garden centre for £33. So what youre seeing on Amazon is nothing short of a bargain, folks!

I was pondering on Amazon for about a week as to what mealworms I should buy for my lovely garden birds. There is such a variation of price and quantities to choose from, but I eventually settled on Chapelwoods 1kg bag of mealworms for the price of £12.50. It seems expensive but Chapelwood is renowned for its high quality food for garden birds so I knew what I was buying would be good stuff.
When it came through the post, I was shocked as to how BIG the bag of mealworms were!! It's roughly the size of a 16" PC monitor. I honestly think I have gotten excellent value for money on this product and will last my garden birds for several weeks - if not more. It only lasts this long because I put out small quantity of mealworms out on the feeders at any one time - if I filled a ground feeder to the brim with the stuff, the local starling population would hoover it up in an instant!! Lol.
Overall, I would give this product 10/10. Can't fault it one bit and highly recommend! Would buy again hands down.

Happy Hens
