I found the works of Bartok that I most enjoy in one collection. As a bonus there were some new and some favourites by Kodaly.

I trusted, and enjoyed, the Solti interpretation.

I would reccommend it to anyone with the same taste in music.

A monument for Bartok and Solti 10 Nov. 2012
By Osvaldo Colarusso - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This album is really one important issue.First of all: Sir Georg Solti's modern recordings of Bartok are essentials. No one did with so profound conviction works like the Concerto for Orchestra or the Dance Suite. The Chicago Symphony sounds perfect, and is very interesting compare the records conducted by Boulez with the same orchestra. We can do this in the items bough conductor recorded with the same orchestra: The Concerto for Orchestra, the Music for strings percussion and celesta, the Dance Suite, the Divertimento for strings end the Hungarian Sketches. In place of intellectual way to preform , we have in Solti one visceral reading.
The piano concertos was a discovery for me. I never heard Sir Georg Solti's reading of the first concerto: amazing. Ashkenazy play very well all the 3 concerts, but the conductor is here the star. The violin concertos are very good too,and the Bluebeard s Castle is one of the most convincing readings I heard ( is the soundtrack of the DVD).In this album we have the last recording of Solti. Three months before his death, in Budapest, he recorded the most impressive reading of Bartok's most important work for Chorus and Orchestra: the Cantata Profana. The chorus of the Hungarian radio , one of the best of the world, sang with the excellent Budapest Festival Orchestra, in the precious acoustic of the Italian Institute. Every thing is perfect. The two soloists, the baritone Alexandru Agache, and specially the tenor Tamás Daróczy are involved in a special manner. Bartok had in mind "authentic" voices. The last vocalize of Tamás Daróczy is the best solution for this. This is "the" recording of this masterpiece.
The bonus cd with Kodaly's works is fantastic too. Never the Dances of Galánta sounded so well. The only bad thing; Why in this album appears one recording in English of the Psalmus Hungaricus?? Sir Georg Solti did a recording of this beautiful work in Hungarian in the same sessions of the Cantata Profana. Pity.
In short:For this low price we have the most important works Bartok wrote for orchestra in amazing readings.

Solti does a great job. There are no loosers here and the booklet gives the texts for the Cantata Profana & Bluebeard's Castle in both Hungarian and English.

Solti in Bartok 18 Dec. 2012

Excellent performances in that classic Decca sound. And what bonuses, some of his mono Kodaly recordings. The Hary Janos from the 1950s still sounds excellent.

creepadelic neighbors across the street insane by ruining any beautiful day they come outside to try to enjoy it 15 Nov. 2014

Everything came as ordered. I did get this to play on a boombox to purposely drive my evil, lying, creepadelic neighbors across the street insane by ruining any beautiful day they come outside to try to enjoy it. If you know Bartok like I know Bartok you know this will just work GREAT!
