Product Description

Description

A solid follow-up to 2005's SOLO ACOUSTIC VOLUME 1, this sequel was recorded at various concerts across several continents in the last few years, providing a wide overview of Jackson Browne's career as both a songwriter and a performer. Ranging across the breadth of Browne's lengthy career, from 1972's "Something Fine" to a handful of songs from 2002's THE NAKED RIDE HOME, SOLO ACOUSTIC VOLUME 2 is lighter on the instantly recognizable radio hits, although "Somebody's Baby" and "In the Shape of a Heart" are both accounted for. Even more appealing for longtime fans, over half of the 12 songs feature lengthy, at times rambling but always entertaining introductions about the songs themselves or the circumstances of their writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better and Better, 13 Feb 2008
By A.lan Stevens "MediaCoach" (LONDON United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
Anyone, who, like me, has been listening to Jackson Browne since the sixties, will need no encouragement to grab this latest offering. Though he's always been a great recording artist, I think he really delivers his best stuff in concert. This set of tracks includes songs from his whole solo career, with "Something Fine" and "Redneck Friend" from his first album, to several songs from his latest studio recording, including "The Night Inside Me", and "My Stunning Mystery Companion". However, for me, the stand-out is "Sky Blue and Black", which always stuns the audience at concerts, and is, I suspect, the most requested song from the call-outs in the stalls.

A Rolling Stone review of his first album included the words "Jackson Browne's sensibility is romantic in the best sense of the term: his songs are capable of generating a highly charged, compelling atmosphere throughout. They sustain that pitch in the listener's mind long after they've ended."" He hasn't changed a bit since then.

Apparently there's a new studio album later this year. I can't wait. Meanwhile, this will do very nicely for now.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great album, 19 Mar 2008
By Mr. Alexander Hayes "Alex H" (Sussex, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you are fortunate enough to own the Jackson Browne Solo Acoustic Vol. 1, you probably also looked forward to to the release of Vol. 2 with a great deal of excitement.

Happily, after numerous dissapointments from other artists in terms of second volumens, this is even better than the last version. 'Sky Blue and Black' is simply fantastic, as is Redneck Friend, a song I had heard very seldom before this release, and Browne's dualogue with the audience put perspective and realism into his songs that you don't feel from the studio albums.

An excellent buy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as volume 1, 20 May 2008
By Comical Engineer "comicaleng" (UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
I am a long time Jackson Browne fan and have seen him live several times both with the band and solo. The previous solo album was an excellent effort and well worth five stars. Regrettably, this is not up to the standard of Vol.1 by any means.

I don't know why, perhaps some of the tracks were just not suited to a solo performance, perhaps these weren't the best performances but this album just doesn't gel. In particular, Somebody's Baby just didn't hit the spot at all and nor even did the usually excellent All Good Things. I was particularly disappointed by the rendition of "In the shape of a heart" which was just not as good as I remember it from the acoustic tour a couple of years ago.

On balance, I would have to say that this album is strictly for fans - which is a shame.
