The chippings need to liquified by placing a small amount in a container in hot water, or any very warm place for a few minutes (I used a small stainless steel bowl that I placed in hot tap water). When melted it looks more like oil, but rubs into the skin really easily, leaving it soft and smooth and is not greasy like oil.
It sets again once it's cold, so it may be worth liquifying and pouring into a metal or glass jar that can be heated up in hot water whenever it's needed. I don't have a microwave so used my ceramic hob to soften a larger amount in a stainless steel bowl on the very lowest heat - but DIDN'T leave it unattended even for a second.
I think that as it's a natural product it's well worth the effort and I will definitely buy more in the future.
