I have tried different brands of 5-HTP and this one seems to have the best mood lift. 5-HTP is not a drug but a natural extract from griffonia seed. Solgar is a good quality brand for all supplements in general. I recommend 5-HTP for depression, anxiety or to control stress. Solgar 5-HTP also contains valerian root extract, this is a calming herb and is good to help with anxiety or insomnia. This is one of the few 5-HTP brands that actually works as it should. Is definitely worth the extra cash over other cheap brands.

Having used Lambert`s to successfully treat symptoms of anxiety and depression during the winter months I thought I`d try Solgar`s 5htp as I prefer vegicaps to tablets. I need to take 300 mg to notice the effects (not feeling depressed or anxious). There is no problems in taking this amount of the Lambert`s range. However, Solgar have added Valerian into there 5htp which makes me feel very drowsy, even when I only take one vegicap. This may not effect other people in the same way and Valerian does have benefits, e.g. it`s sedative effects allow for easy, deep sleep at night. But I don`t wish to feel so drowsy during the day as it prevents me from getting that alert, get-up-and-go feeling that I need to do my job effectively. Anyway hope this helps!

5-HTP for better sleep

My trainer recommended 5-HTP for better rest and recovery. I've been impressed with the Solgar products incorporated into my diet lately, and so I thought to give this a try. I take this along with Solgar Sweetest Dreams and a Solaray Magnesium, Calcium, and Zinc supplement at night. I've been sleeping deeper, falling asleep faster, and waking up more refreshed. Also, my endurance has improved during my workouts. Because I've never isolated the products, other than the Magnesium, Calcium, and Zinc supplement, I'm not sure if I would have the same benefit by just taking this one product. However, there's no doubt in the improvement in the quality of sleep and health that I feel with the combination. Also, I tried New Chapter Tranquilnite Plus which is quite similar to the Solgar Sweetest Dreams, and did not get the same feeling of being well rested and energetic as I did when adding the 5-HTP. So, I definitely can recommend this product. Also, I'm usually a fan of the New Chapter line up of vitamins. However, the Tranquilnite Plus smells horrible. So, I would go with the Solgar or something else for the sleep aid.
