5.0 out of 5 stars Another hit by Mel Comley 19 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Ellen Brazil runs a missing persons bureau in Worcester and is investigating the disappearance of the wife of a body builder, but as the missing women keep stacking up, she's in a race against time to try and find them alive and well.

This is yet another great thriller from Mel Comley - fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat, you won't want to put it down!

3.0 out of 5 stars Maybe it's me... 20 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Ex-police officers Ellen Brazil and Brian Lynx run a missing persons firm, specialized private investigators for hire. When Ellen takes on a new case for a bodybuilder little does she realize quite what consequences will result.

Something didn't quite work for me with Sole Intention. It's well written for sure, the author is clearly very experienced and portrays the character, place and action well. At times there is a strong suspense element, so nothing wrong there. So perhaps it is me.

Sole Intention deals with some difficult issues - murder, kidnap, rape and abuse among them, this is not, at times, a soft novel. Periodically we enter the killer's head and witness events from his maniacal perspective. Not always easy reading and it's well handled. The characters are decent, Ellen has to deal with family issues at the same time as the investigation.

Again I recognize this is being my `preference' but generally the strength of the language didn't match up to the events - for example there is hardly any swearing in the dialogue. I am not suggesting that swearing is a must, it isn't. However the prose was sometimes nice, when the action wasn't. Almost as if the author is more comfortable with another genre or events? It was interesting for sure.

The other element that concerned me slightly and made me question the story was quite quickly Ellen determines there are a lot of women missing and more occurring. They all bear a striking resemblance to each other and disappeared in similar circumstances. However the police are not interested in the case, there isn't enough evidence. Really? Maybe, but I struggled to believe it. Also the killer's mother showed varied responses to learning about her son's activities.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great start to a series 27 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed this book,I liked the main characters, and the pace of the book.I used to live in Worcester so I had an added bonus of knowing some of the places mentioned, I even used to live in Wylds Lane in Worcester many years ago, one of the places mentioned.I think this first book sets the scene very well and I look forward to seeing the characters and relationships develop, and more crimes to solve too, another great series to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic start to what I hope is a new series 24 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ellen Brazil and Brian Lynx are two ex cops who have started their own missing persons agency. When they begin looking into the disappearance of a local woman they discover that this may just be the tip of the iceberg. Over the last 6 months several women all bearing an uncanny resemblance to each other have gone missing in the local area. Can this be coincidence or do they have a serial abductor on their hands?

I loved the whole Lorne Simkins series by Mel Comley so was really excited to find that she had released a new book. Within around 10 mins I had downloaded and started to read. This is a great story which moves at a breakneck pace. What really sets it apart though is the author's typical characterisation. From practically the first page we get an insight into the personalities of both Brian and Ellen. Although in this book Ellen is the stand out character, I imagine that if this develops into a series we will learn more about Brian's background. I love the way Ellen's family are woven into the story, the situation with her mother is almost as interesting as the main plot.
I couldn't put this book down and sincerely hope that Mel has more stories planned around these characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sole Intention 2 Mar 2014
By Joo TOP 1000 REVIEWER

An enjoyable read (as enjoyable as murder mysteries can be) in this new series by Mel Comley.
This one is about a missing persons bureau and even though some of their actions seem a bit over the top and not quite what you'd expect, it was a good read.

Set in a missing persons' bureau we follow Ellen and Brian, two ex-police officers, as they hunt for missing young women whose connection to each other has been overlooked by the police. Are these just a spate of random missing people or is there a serial abductor on the loose?

2.0 out of 5 stars Not credible
I could not stick with this to the end. The idea of the private missing persons team is a good one but the plot line involving the police was just not remotely credible. Read more
