This series made Robson and Jerome famous and sparked off a short but sweet pop career for both of them. However, Soldier Soldier is so much more than just Robson and Jerome - this is what I loved about the series:

1. There are a range of interesting characters across all levels of seniority in the Army and normal day to day problems are no respecters of rank and position, from the top brass to the lowliest Fusillier, everyone has their place and their job to do and it's not always easy to forget what's going on at home.

2. There are as many women in the series as men - not in the Army as such - save but a few highly determined individuals - but the wives and girlfriends themselves. These ladies bring the strength and humour to each of the episodes and I found myself laughing and crying with them through their celebrations, trials and tribuations.

3. I loved the early glimpses of actors and actresses who've developed their careers since - it's great to see Philip Glennister, Denise Welch, Danny Cunningham and Dougray Scott to name but a few.

4. The great storylines... I think this is the closest you can get to finding out what Army life is like - for th soldiers and their wives - the huge decisoins to make in terms of whether to take up postings in foreign climbs when you can't take the family with you; the temptations of the wives and girlfriends when your man is away for months at a time and for nearly everyone - struggling to find their own sense of identity amidst the feeling that the Army owns them, body and soul.

5. The truly touching point of the whole series for me was the camaraderie; the unbreakable bonds of friendship and the selfless acts of individuals for their friends, colleagues and family.

This is a great set to own if you are a fan of military dramas, Robson and Jerome or just despair of the quality of today's television programmes. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it very highly.

I bought this because I really enjoyed the series on TV. I wondered whether it would seem dated or stale, but am pleased to say it didn't and it was nice to relive a bit of the 90's fashion and music. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it again. They don't seem to make series like this any more, where there is the camaraderie of the cast, the travelling abroad to different locations, and great script, witty scenarios etc. There is a bit of everything in Soldier Soldier; adventure, love, humour and inevitably some sad moments. Production is fantastic and makes some of today's tv pale in comparison.

It's hard to believe that the first series of Soldier Soldier was made in 1991! 17 years on and it's still excellent viewing, entertainment and of interesting military historical content.

A series made in a world pre-9/11, still raises the same issues that face army personnel and their families today. Questions of pay, care for the families, and the threat of cuts and amalgamation of regiments.

From a historical point it's fascinating to be taken back to a time when Northern Ireland was more poignant to the army, the Falklands only ten years past, and the troubles in the first Gulf war and Bosnia were very prominent. Stories based on a background of these events along with the handover of Hong Kong to the Chinese, make this series so much more than just a drama.

The show itself still has that charm that fans remember from the first time it was broadcast. The wonderful interaction of the main three actors, Flynn, Green and Love can again be enjoyed in this great box set. With witty scripts and a plethora of interesting characters....from the stereotypical posh officers, to the rough and ready fusilier. The interaction between all the "wives" is great to watch too, and how they all ultimately pull together, regardless of their background or social standing. It has been a pure joy to watch all these episodes again, and I highly recommend this set.
One note of caution, there does not appear to be any difference between this set priced around £40-45, than the set that is priced ridicuously over £100. Be sure to shop around for the cheaper price.

This was bought for me by my husband as a Christmas present and I can safely say that it has been the best value present he has bought me to date! We have been glued to the antics of the KOF since Christmas (much to the dismay of our children who think we are sad!)

For all those fans of the show when it was broadcast back in the 90s I would encourage you to buy this box set as the series just doesn't date (as long as you ignore, or just laugh at, the dodgy fashion sense).

I have even managed to convince my two teenaged daughters to watch and the response was a resounding "yeah, that was ok" - praise indeed!

I remembered watching this when the series first came out, I enjoyed it then. However I missed several episodes and decided to purchase the full boxed set, I was not dissapointed. Robson Green as 'Fusilier Tucker' never ceased to amaze me as to how he managed to get away with so much, as for his wife 'Donna' having first hand experience of being a sevicemans wife I can thoroughly empathise with her situation of being left constantly to cope with a family on your own.The series portrays the lives, and the ups and downs of being in the armed forces.
Great series thoroughly recommended.
