4.0 out of 5 stars Great if you like a challenge, bad if you dont, 5 Mar 2004

This review is from: Commandos - Beyond the Call of Duty (Video Game)
If you have played Commandos Behing Enemy Lines, you will know the layout of the game. (Dont stop reading though)

If not here's a quick summary. You have a team of soldiers and have to attempt a series of missions against the Germans in a World War II scenerio. You control one soldier at a time, by clicking on the soldier, and selecting an action such as run, shoot, crawl or pick up. Each soldier has a special skill, you have a diver who can swim underwater and row a dingy, a spy who can impersonate a German Office, a driver, a sapper and a marine and a sniper.

As game play goes, its simple to control which is good, but it does get frustrating. If an enemy soldier spots you, he sounds an alarm and any soldiers nearby come to hunt you down. If they start shooting, you dont have long to get away before you die. Should you escape, some of you team will have a few first aid rations to help but this soons runs out.

If you lose a soldier, sometimes you cant complete the mission as you need his skill and you cant continue onto further missions. This is very frustrating.

The game does have a good tutorial section which helps you get accustomed to the soldiers and how the game works so you won't be thrown in at the deep end.

Compared to Behind Enemy Lines, this is much more difficult. You have much more chance of being caught. And it is harder to get past the German Soldiers.

In addition you also have to be more tactical, sometimes it might be better not to shoot. You can knock enemy soldiers over the head and hand cuff them. You can also hold them at gun point and use them to distract other enemy soldiers.

If you like a challenge. This is for you. You need brains and a good tactical skills to get your team through. Be prepared to spend as much time thinking as you do fighting. If you suceed, you have my respect and I definitely would class you as a good gamer.

The game is worth giving a go and you will feel good if you succed. If not its only £4.99 from Amazon so its still worth a go.
