When this game came out it was lauded as the best thing since sliced bread. At the time the graphics were groundbreaking, the whole concept unheard of!
This is still true today, the graphics may look dated, but they still hold up very well. The storyline is beautiful, or more the lack thereof. There is a base storyline running through the whole game, but you decide what to do. You don't have to complete all the missions. In fact there are two types of missions - Gold missions which are necessary to progress in the game, and Silver missions which can give you helpful bonuses.
You can choose whether you are evil or good (evil being far easier to do), and your creature (your tool on the earth), which can grow higher than buildings will reflect this!
There are a wide variety of 'miracles' to perform eg. food, water, lightning, fireball etc.
All in all an amazing game which deserves a place on anyone's shelf, so get this now before the sequel so you can appreciate that a bit more!

So much detail!!! 16 Dec 2005
normally, the idea of 'being god' wouldnt be very original. But the detail put into black and white is BRILLIANT.

In black and white you can take control and be god. 'As soon as people pray a god is born'- Is the idea. At the start you get your creature, tiny and weak but as you play the creature becomes huge and strong. Being god means you have to provide the people with food wood and health - which you can aquire by harvesting and choping or you can do the quick way, miracles.

Miracles are created when people worship you at you temple, but your creature can make them if he/she learns. To teach your creature these tricks, all you have to do is perform them in front of him/her. Your creature can perform them whithout power.

You can decide wheather you want to be good or evil and the game will work out if what you are by how nice you treat your people and what you teach your creature to do.

Some people say to me that black and white 2 is much worse because the detail put into it is so much less. I dont know but i know that the original has AMAZING detail, for example when you pick up a stone and pull it through a tree the tree rustles but i have heard you dont get that in the new one.

great game but the graphics need improving - they're to old.

Still great 28 April 2005
I have has this game for quite some time now when i first got it i thought that it was awesome and was always playing it. I then got some other games and so it got shunted ot the side. I hadn't played it for a while until the other day i decided to play it. I then realised that is still just as good, yes that graphics may look a bit dated but it is still good fun game to play. I think that the fact that you can do what ever you want is a good thing in that you ar enot tied down which means that game will not get boaring like some do if you are stuck and cannot get past one level.

Overall i belive that anyone should still buy this game and for 6 quid it is a bargin!!
