Product Description

This solar charger is extremely useful - you will never have to worry about a flat battery again! For anyone leaving their car or boat unattended for long periods this little charger will ensure the battery is topped up and ready to go just when you need it most. No more sitting around waiting for the break-down truck or scrambling around for jumpleads. Just pop this up on the dashboard and plug into your in-car electrical socket to ensure a constantly charged battery. It even works on overcast winter days and has an inbuilt diode to prevent battery drainage at night! Supplied with a set of crocodile clips and in-car socket adaptor means it can be used on a variety of different applications from cars, motorbikes & camper vans to boats & caravans. Performance & Operation The charger will deliver current to the 12V battery at 4W, which means in ideal conditions, the panel will generate 4W of power per hour. This is an optimum amount of power to prevent a large battery going flat - even in winter. The solar charger is fully water proof and can be left outdoors - however ensure your battery is kept dry and undercover. On some makes of car when the ignition key is removed it isolates the battery - in this case you will have to attach the crocodile clips directly to the battery itself. We recommend using with a battery size of 30Ah or greater. If using with a lower capacity batter then a 4A charge controller will be required. NOTE: Most car batteries are 70Ah and above. Safety Keep the solar charger away from fire to ensure damage and injury do not occur. Do not dismantle the solar charger Take care not to damage the electrical leads so to avoid a short circuit. Handle the electrical clips by the plastic only. Specifications Size: 237 x 229 x 34mm Closed Size: 445 x 237 x 17mm Open Weight: 890g Power : 4W Voltage: 12V Adaptors 1 x 2.5m cable with 12V in-car plug 1 x 1.2m cable with crocodile clips

The product is fairly well made for the price range and works. While the unit is described as waterproof, the front connector most certainly isn't - I would not leave it outside as its just a conventional open battery plug with no attempt made to create a seal. Performance is quite modest, and although rated at 4 watts at 12v which would mean over 300mA in full sunlight, in fact it only manages about 50mA - little better than the much smaller and cheaper one I bought at the same time. In practice this is barely enough to cope with quiescent battery drain from radio, alarm, trip computer etc - and won't keep up in winter I suspect. But it's much better than just leaving the battery - but why pay the extra for this large unit?

It seems a sturdy bit of kit, and all the lights that are supposed to flash do flash. I'll have a better idea if it was worth the money when I come to try a start up in April.
Tried to start motor-home up after six weeks and battery was flat! Apparently if the alarm system etc. draws more than the panel supplies (even with everything else switched off) this is what happens. Best to disconnect the battery altogether if you want this panel to keep up.

I've bought it as my motorcycle wouldn't start in winter. It is common if comes to hudge v-twin engines and my is 1500cc. I have decided to try solar charger insted of repairing starter cluch which is very costy. It does give an extra kick and bike starts every time I try. I've been waiting and checking it for 2 months to be sure its worth 5 stars, but I have to say- YES it IS. Very good and usefull charger, as it's one of the srongest (portable), you can be sure it works in all weather conditions. I've used it in the van couple times, as I've mounted 230v socket to be able to charge my tools on the go. Van started every time I wanted. 100% worth having.

Received item quicker then advertised. Packaging good and item well built except I agree with Andy Bob the connector into the front of the unit is not well thought out and would be better with a right angled plug rather then the straight one. Especially if using it in the front window of a caravan as the straight plug restricts the angle of the panel. Performance wise, it increased and maintained my 100Ah leisure battery from 12.33v to 12.99v but it is a trickle charger. It will not turnaround a battery that has been discharged to below 11v but should be fine for maintaining 12v+ over winter storage.

I have a battered old Landrover Discovery that I use a couple of times a month. Battery life has been a problem, but this completely solves it. I wired the panel straight in to the battery terminals, threaded the wire through the bulkhead (always plenty of holes in a Landrover) and keep the panel on the dashboard, permanently switched on and charging.
Since fitting it about 2 months ago, the starter has barked into life instantly every time. Job's a good'un!

Had trouble with my car which I only use occasionally. Battery was often flat but this has done the trick.

I've been using this item for a few weeks, and it certainly maintains power in my battery.
It seems reasonably well made, but I would advise you to treat it with some TLC.
It is not a proper battery charger, but will trickle charge a good battery, and help maintain it's volt level, which will drop if you leave your car unused.
This 4amp is obviously better than the smaller 1.5amp Solar Panel, and is well worth the extra few £'s.
You need to have a cigar lighter outlet which is on ALL the time, even when you remove your ignition key, or you will have to connect the leads direct to the battery, which may prove a bit tricky.
You can, of course, change your cigar lighter power cable to a different connection in your fuse box, to one which has a continuous power flow, or you can fit another cigar lighter, (with continuous power and correct size fuse), in a convenient place, and use it solely for your solar panel. (I personally think that is the better choice)
Might sound difficult, but is usually quite simple. Lots of info on U-TUBE.
