Looking for a bargain and spotted Jana Oliver. Enjoyed Demon Trapper book so purchased Sourjon. Me and my son (age 14) could not put it down. Great and diverse characters, good pace and great setting. Read all 3 in this series. If you love fantasy and time travel this is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sojourn 14 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
London, September 1888. An aged Queen Victoria rules. The threat of anarchy hovers in the air. A new kind of evil lurks in the back alleys of Whitechapel. Enter Jacynda Lassiter, a Time Rover on a mission--find an overdue `tourist' and return him to 2057 before he changes history.

Victorian London is a dangerous place for the unwary. Mysterious shape-shiftershaunt the streets, making friend and foe indistinguishable. When a fellow Time Rover is murdered, Jacynda's mission becomes personal. Can she trust the two gentlemen who come to her aid, or do they harbor their own dark secrets?

In a few days, Jack the Ripper will add to his bloody legacy. But old Jack isn't the only threat in Whitechapel. Unless Jacynda can outwit a madman, her Victorian sojourn will rewrite history--and end at the point of a blade.

Review 6 out of 5

Jacynda Lassiter is a time rover from 2057. She is sent back to 1888 to collect an overdue tourist from Victorian London. Whilst there, she meets two gentlemen who have secrets of their own; one a doctor, the other a police officer. But when one of her colleagues from 2057 is found murdered in 1888, Jacynda is caught in a world of mystery and intrigue that could change history forever, unless she can find the madman and stop her future from disappearing.

After reading Jana Oliver's Demon Trapper series, I decided to find out if she had written anything else. I found, to my delight, that she had.
Sojourn is completely different to the Demon Trappers series in that it's aimed at a slightly older reading audience. It has a more adult theme.
I fell in love with this story! I love Jana's style of writing; I feel as if I'm in Victorian London whilst reading this book.

Imagine a world in the near future where people with the means to pay can vacation in a different time period with a specialized "tour guide" called a time rover. Now imagine that world is similar enough to the one we live in now that those same people that have the means to pay for a time travel vacation can also pass money under the table to visit these locations without a time rover as an escort. What kind of trouble could a person cause by meddling in the past? LOTS...and that's just a sliver of the premise!

Cynda is one of the most talented Time Rovers of her time, but all is not well at her agency and with financial short falls rumored, her job is in jeopardy. Upon returning (by the skin of her teeth) with a tourist from 79 AD Pompei, Cynda is told that she must turn around on another trip and recover a missing tourist in 1888, London. Not her favorite time period, Cynda begins to argue but is hinted at that her job might be a little more "secure" if she obeys and takes the mission. With her only real friend, Ralph, manning the technical aspect of the trip back home in 2057, Cynda feels confident she can get there grab the missing tourist and get back home for some overdue R&R with her handsome honey, and fellow time rover, Chris. If only it were that simple....

Upon arrival in 1888 London, Cynda begins to suffer some awful time roving side effects like hallucinations, nausea, and fainting. She quickly makes it to the safe house but not without falling ill to her symptoms. Enter the handsome Dr. Alastair Montrose. Dr. Montrose also happens to be a tenant at the boarding house Jacynda is staying at and witnesses her illness. Being a compassionate doctor, he assists Jacynda and helps her get settled into her room.

I picked this book after reading some of Jana's other books all of which I'd enjoyed. This book was no exception, she kept me guessing right until the end with characters that I came to care about and a world that I could lose myself in. Bring on book 2
