Book Description

Aimed at experts who are dedicated to software testing, The Software Testing Process: Test Management addresses the major issues related to advanced, state-of-the-art test management. This book covers the syllabus required to pass the Certified Tester Examination - Advanced Level as defined by the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB).

Software developers, project managers, quality managers, and team leaders will benefit from the comprehensive coverage of risk oriented management and the way testing is shown to be an integral, though independent part of software development.

Included are best practices in the field of testing, as well as detailed descriptions of involved tasks, roles, and responsibilities. Well suited for self-study, the reader is "taken by the hand" and guided through the key concepts and terminology of software testing in a variety of scenarios and case studies (as featured in the first book in this series, Software Testing Foundations).

Not only will testers and test managers find this a must-read, but anyone requiring advanced professional knowledge and skills in this field, anyone wanting to become a true testing professional, will find this book a must for a successful, well-founded education in advanced test management.

Topics include:

Although informative this book is no longer relevant to the current exam. It is also very difficult to read as it is so dry. I'm now looking for a book that is (a) up to date and (b) suitable to read for more than 10 minutes at a time, I really struggled to spend any meaningful lengths of time reading through this. However, it is very good for dipping in and out of if there is something in particular that you want to know about.

3.0 out of 5 stars a good book that gives a decent overview of test cycle management 28 Mar. 2010
By KP - Published on
i read this book not for the ISTQB test but to understand the test cycle management process better and found that it could have used more details and example but overall i found this book to be good in terms for explaining test cycle management.

book starts off explaining test process and then giving examples of different SDLCs and how testing is done in those process.later chapters explain establishing test policy which describes and sets standards on quality and how to achieve it. Test Plan chapter goes in to detail on how to create a Test Plan and things it should include followed by chapter on Test Control which explains on how to monitor the testing process and reacting to test results, evulating if testing is complete and creating test result report.

Different technique, such as Six Sigma, CMMI, TMM, are explained to assist in approaching testing, improving development process, evaluating test process and performing audits. Deviation Management chapter explains documenting anomalies and Risk management chapter explain on how to identify and control the risk by using right test technique.

Later chapters talk about what is expected from QA staff and skills required by them, different test metrics and how to select test tools.
