This is an excellent text, taking the 'newbie' database/system developer through all the stages necessary for analysing requirements for a system, through to designing the data structure and other data modelling techniques, aided by a case study that underpins the various activities. It even makes data normalisation seem less frightening!
To be honest, the current or any earlier editions are just as good - not too much has changed other than the cover changing from a nice 'austerity' gold and white to a colourful view of wind turbines (and what do they have to do with systems development?) - and earlier editions should be somewhat cheaper too!
