About the Author

THERESE LASKEY is a crafter living in Brooklyn, New York. She is the author or "Softies" by Chronicle Books. She also has an upcoming book on Zakka, a Japanese fashion and home design trend, which will release in Autumn 2008 by Stewart, Tabori, and Chang.

Having received my kit this morning I immediately started to coo over the adorable nature of the things I could/can/will make! So far I've made the elephant, a mean feat for someone who collects all the tools but rarely focuses long enough to master them. The patterns included are totally simple and foolproof. However, this kit almost lost 1 star in the review for skipping instructions regarding the elephants trunk. Poor thing.

Maybe I'm easily pleased, but I like the Softies Kit... even if it's just for the pictures.

From the front picture i thought this kit would be all animals, but aside from those pictured, there are two cakes, a ham (on the bone), a tree, a rabbit, and a birthday banner. I was rather dissapointed.

This is a beautifully presented kit, with the all the required materials for making one of the designs. I have the other Softies book, so was a little disappointed that 4 of the designs are repeated in this kit, however overall it's worth the money. You get all the designs on separate cards (useful if you carry your projects around and don't want to take a whole book), plus patterns which is a big plus as many books require you to photocopy and enlarge the patterns before you can get started. This is on my Christmas gift giving list for my crafty pals.
