SHE REALLY IS A MODERN MASTER OF ART! It is so very easy to appreciate the work of Julie Bell, so much so that I really could not get enough of looking at the truly visually stunning and awe inspiring artwork that is beautifully reproduced in this wonderful book. The book is well organised into sections -
1. comic book characters - 34 pages where perhaps her more well known work is displayed in
2. worlds of fantasy - 35 pages in which is shown a select body of her fantasy art work is shown
3. warriors - 27 pages. Characters like Zorro and Elektra and others, mostly for book/magazine covers.
4. private gallery - 4 pages of about a dozen portraits and a couple landscpes
5. figure studies - 15 pages life drawing of the human figure
Her sexy, sensual but strong and dignified women superheroes, muscle bound, perfect-bodied male characters, and her fantastic beasts are all here. We can see how masterfully she gives her human (or superhuman) figures and beasts character and emotion. She absolutely excels in telling a story with just one picture. I absolutely love Julie's use of colour and the vibrant and refined quality of her work, the way she is able to create feeling in her work be it a sense of raw energy and action like in "Into the sunset" or of stillness, sereneness and contemplativeness as in "Reflecting".
I really enjoyed seeing her life studies because, as she is quoted saying in the book, her art stems from drawing the human figure. Julie's portrayal of the human body and its movement is really breathtaking in its photorealism and the sensual quality with which she imbues every figure.

A great book and a real surprise and joy to add to my art book collection.
Initially I learned of Julie Steel through researching Boris Vallejo. After seeing a used copy of this book at a really reasonable price on Amazon I decided to just to by it to see what it was like.
Julie's work is very similar to Boris' and equally if not more stunning.
I would definitely recommend this book to fans of fantasy art.

Another of JULIE BELL'S WORK. You don't have to be a sci fi fan to love her work.

Exquisite look at Julie Bell's art! 14 Aug. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This book combines comments from Julie with a variety of her work from oil paintings to pencil sketches. Especially exciting is seeing some of her trading card art in a larger format. The only problem is the binding. It can be hard to view double page spreads, as part of it is obscured in the binding. This is a great, inexpensive way to get your hands on some of Julie's art.

Julie Bell at her best 28 Jun. 2000
By "jcryan55" - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This is the 2nd book i got hold after "Hard Curves". Fans of Julie Bell's fantasy art get to keep her prints in a single book. That's luxury! Profusely illustrated and a sure treat for fantasy illustration. Near flawless fantasy art collection in oil captured on prints. Perfect interpretation of human anatomy through her oil painting techniques. Definitely a must for fantasy art collector. One pity is some prints are printing over 2 pages and over time the paperback give way in the saddle and the prints gets torn out. Would have been better if it's a hardbound.

Great book of Julie's Art up unitl the late 90s 8 Feb. 2008
By Zarock - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Julie is my favorite fantasy artist so it was nice to have a book specifically with her work in it.

The book covers a range of Julie's art (not just that wonderful metal she does) up until the late 90s. I have the Boris and Julie Ultimate Collection so a lot of the works in this book are images that I already have, but there are enough ones I had not seen before to make it worthwhile.

The text in this book is interesting and enjoyable helping me know the reasons and ideas behind the paintings and more about Julie herself.

Another great book for my collection.
