Ok, its not absolutely certain that you'll catch a fatal bout of food-poisoning or be banged up in jail as a drugs mule. But you might. Why would a sane person risk it? Holidays arent economical, they arent ecological, and theyre not much bloody fun. With travel tips, handy warnings and lists of stuff you can only do at home, Sod Abroad will help you kick the holiday habit. Instead, why not spend a fortnight on your sofa, in your home, watching your telly (/reading this book), and eating food that you can actually pronounce.

Review

'Michael Moran manages to be witty, offensive and completely aware that most of what he is peddling is piffle'

(Laurence Mackin, Irish Times 20080705)

'Save the planet. Save money. Save your sanity. Stay home ... If you still need reasons to kick the vacation vice, Michael Moran (a tongue-in-cheek miserabilist for whom experience has evidently triumphed over optimism) hopes to convince you that British is Best.'

(The Times 20080614)

'A litany of handy warnings and useful travel tips'

(TNT Magazine 20080609)

'Full of things you can only do at home'

(Traveller 20080601)

5.0 out of 5 stars SOLO TRIUMPH 21 Jun 2008
Format:Paperback
We all pretend to love travel but once you have read Moran's sparkling little volume you will stay at home and do something more interesting instead and improve your mind, body and bank-balance. SOD ABROAD is funnier than Grumpy Old Men, wiser than Melvyn Bragg and less expensive than a Ryan Air sandwich. I loved it and you will love it - in fact we will probably have to fight a duel for who loves this book the most. BUY IT NOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sod the Negative Reviews 23 Jun 2008
Format:Paperback
I don't understand how anyone could fail to find SOD ABROAD extremely funny. It's an anti-travel guide written with a wicked sense of humour that had me, quite literally, laughing like a drain. Funnier than spending forty-eight hours sleeping in a cardboard box in Terminal Five, and probably a damn sight cheaper too!

I bought this in the airport on the way to a holiday abroad. I have not laughed so much for a long time.
There's an element of truth in what he says, with regards to the hassle of going on holiday at home or abroad, the worry about your house and pets whilst you are there and of course, how the locals view you when you are there.

Yes, the book is "samey" in that the central theme is that it doesn't matter where you go, there is no place like home, but it doesn't spoil the book in the least. This book was passed from myself, to my husband, then I bought a copy for my mother in law (because she was down at not being able to go abroad this year) and we've all hooted and cried laughing at various parts.

If you buy this book, particularly at the sinfully low price they are often sold for, you will not regret it, I guarantee.
