I did Sociology in my first year while I was in University. I pursued the External Programme offered by the University of London and did the entire degree on my own with no help of a college or tutor.

I had to struggle a fair bit for Sociology as there were no comprehensive textbooks available then. Most texts tend to beat around the bush and did not go much into the basic fundamentals. There was also a stigma attached to Sociology as a "boring" and as a "killer" subject.

Luckily for me, I had the interest in the subject and managed to do fairly well. Imagine how I felt when I found out only recently that Dr. Steve Taylor and his co-authors published this wonderful and comprehensive book!! I only wished that it was published much earlier and maybe I would have gotten a distinction then!

To all future students of Sociology: Do not hesitate to purchase this useful book!
