Great Primer 16 Mar 2005

Format:Paperback
I don't know how that guy below got into 'a university', but this book is a must buy for all Sociology students. I have been using it on and off for three years now, and it always comes in useful as a basic text for introducing a subject with great background reading sections. Certainly don't buy the book from your uni store, it costs about £50. It gives a great balanced introductions on almost all the theories and Topics you are likely to encounter, such as types of empirical data and so on, and has very good coverage regarding theory. I wouldn't say it has any overriding or subconscious theory message, as it gives a very liberal airing to all theories. Over all a great book I am glad to have bought.

Good for the Basics 18 Oct 2003

Format:Paperback
Aa a beginners book of Sociology this is fantastic as it sets everything out very clearly and actually makes sense- which as you may know is rare for higher education texts. It's well laid out and has links to web-pages that are extremely helpful.

I am a third year student at an international business school and have been using this book for an introduction to sociology course. The book is well written, easy to read and to understand. The concepts were well established and developed throughout the course and the summaries provided in the book on important key concepts were helpful when revising. The book comprises a lot of material though, which cannot be covered in a basic one-semester course. In addition, there are a lot of statistics that are out of date, however, can easily be updated.

A good introductory textbook
