Product Description

Product Description

A new and accessible textbook designed to meet the specific requirements of AS Level Social Students, written by practising teachers and examiners.

The book is divided into eight units:

The individual and society
• Families and huseholds
• Education
• Wealth, welfare and poverty
• The mass media
• Health
• Research methods
• Preparing for the AS exam

Each unit is divided into a number of topics, organised in a consistent and easy-to-follow format. Each topic contains text to develop knowledge, but also equal amounts of activities and suggestions for research to develop the subject-specific and ‘key’ skills needed.

From the Publisher

After four years of huge popularity with students and teachers, Moore, Aiken and Chapman's brilliant Sociology for AS-level is now in its second edition.

Now in full-colour, with all the accessibility and interactive features that made the first edition so successful, the second edition comes in separate AQA and OCR volumes, targeted to the specific needs of each awarding body. For teachers, there are photocopiable Resource Packs to support each version, complete with answer guidance and mark schemes.

This book is brilliant. It provides all the information needed for As sociology in the form of text, charts and pictures. A very useful aspect of this book is the queations throughout each topic. They allow you to see how well you have understood the previous information. I used this book throughout studying the As sociology course and came out with a grade A!

I used this book, and only this book whilst studying AS sociology (and I am currently studying A2 with the same book). Because of the brilliant structure and the simplicity this book uses to discuss interesting topics, from Health to Family & Housholds to Education, I found it easy to obtain a high grade (I got an A, and 100% in the Education exam, many people got A's). I loved reading this book so much that since I have just finished my A-levels I am purchasing this book simply for reading for pleasure. It gave me an insight into the world of sociology and a passion for it that I will never loose.

I highly recommended buying this textbook if you are an AS Sociology student. You can pass the course just by using this textbook alone, it's that good. Everything is presented and explained in an interesting and easy to understand way (unlike the Haralambos textbooks). Another plus about this textbook is that it is very up to date, and cites examples from events that have happened quite recently.
