Book Description

"Social Skills Games and Activities for Kids With Autism" provides complete instructions for using fun, engaging games and activities to teach social skills to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The games include directions for assessing skills such as asking for toys, getting the attention of others, reading nonverbal gestures, understanding perspectives, and cooperating to solve problems. Using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, the book takes teachers through motivating, prompting, shaping, modeling, and reinforcing social skills while playing the games and helping students learn to participate in other activities such as demonstrating the social skill in role plays and the natural environment. Perfect for teachers struggling to help their students with autism learn to interact socially with their peers, these games are sure to become a much-loved part of students' daily routines.

This book had plenty of things which were suitable for Autism with learning difficulties, but as my daughter is bright with Aspergers I did not find it relevant

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for me 3 Sept. 2013
By Adrienne Darnell - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was expecting lessons I could open the book and go with little preparation. This book would say things like "read a story about friendship" "give examples of good communication". The reason I bought the book was for it to do just that, not for me to create my own lessons of a template.

This is a workbook that needs to be on the shelf of every teacher of students with special needs, as well as parents of children on the Autism spectrum. Whether you're a seasoned educator or a clueless caregiver, the combination of easy-to-understand explanations, real-life case studies, and relevant activities will benefit you and the child(ren) you interact with.

Dr. Ashcroft and her team created some great hands on ideas to develop social skills and activities for the classroom and home. I use this in my classroom and assist parents to continue the games at home as well.

Autism is horrible for the family and the autistic individual. The biggest thing is the social world, and they need help any way they can.
