5.0 out of 5 stars a marvellous book (esp. for beginners), 3 Feb 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Social Psychology (Hardcover)
The book is designed to inject curiosity and thereby to motivate the reader to read more. Social psychology being an interesting area becomes enjoyable with this book. Besides, it gives abundant information (in a way that can be easily assimilated!) covering all important topics of social psychology, and the reader gets the real perspective and meaning of social psychology and its related topics. This is very important because social psychology is not a subject as assumed to be at first. The characteristics are as follows: (start) (1) Things and phenomena are explained making use of good, easy-to-understand and common examples. Sometimes examples are deviant, but this adds a flavor to the atmosphere of the topic. These are usually chosen from real life to further astound the reader. (2) Experiments are explained well. There is no missing important points. The explanations are not too long, focused and pure (not containing unnecessary and distracting details). (3) Introductions to topics are motivating. (4) Pictorial illustrations are present wherever they are needed and reasonable to look at. (5) The narrative text has high quality in readability. (Take, for instance, Franzoi's book [1st ed]: The text was hard to read and conceive.) I mean the sentences are short enough, consistent and in harmony. (6) It includes "Research Methods" in the 1st chapter, a must read (not to be skipped) to understand the following material. (end) I found this book marvellous, bought it before classes started and read many chapters. Thus, I had easy times during the course. After the course, still, I keep it as a favourite reference.
