'I will never use another textbook for my social psychology courses! Dr Martin Hagger, University of Nottingham
Hogg & Vaughan is the most comprehensive social psychology text on the market and covers material in a more sophisticated manner than the competition. Moreover, the chapters on culture, self/identity, and language provide information that is often lacking. Dr Mark Burgess, Oxford Brookes University
I use the fourth edition of Hogg & Vaughan for my first-year class and can say that it makes teaching social psychology interesting and fun! The writing style is clear and engaging and conveys the passion of the authors even with difficult and potentially dry material. Dr Anja Eller, University of St Andrews
--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title. Can we ever be genuinely unprejudiced? What can we learn about people from how they speak? How can a minority change the world? Why do people obey authority, even when ordered to do evil? Why do groups sometimes make bad decisions? Can we study love scientifically, or should we leave it to the poets? Do violent computer games make violent people?
Mapping the connection between social psychology and our everyday lives, the sixth edition of this market-leading textbook provides a lively and engaging introduction to the field.
The book is supported by a new, user-friendly website featuring an interactive recap of the main text, self-test materials, guided questions, and a large range of videos and podcasts from different researchers for students to consolidate and test their understanding. When I received it I was impressed by the lay out and 4-colour of the book. It covers all the basics of social psychology.
HOWEVER,
the style the book is written in is too complex and advanced for a person new to the field. My vocabulary is by no means bad but I found this book to be a tad too articulate. Explanations of theories can be written in a more simple and contructive way than this book.
My advise is to look at other major texts in the field. Rather pick this one up as reference text later down the line when your social psychology knowledge is more advanced...
