This text book is a must for all AS Social Policy students and teachers alike. It covers all aspects of the course in a comprehensive and reader friendly way. The chapters clearly relate to the Edexcel specification and include summaries and reviews. The book is up to date and includes references to new labour and to concepts like the Third Way. I am a teacher of social policy and have advised all my students to purchase this book. I feel this book would be very useful for people studying foundation courses in social policy.

As a social care student, I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking at social policy for either study or personal interest. It clearly sets out the beginnings of social policy and its development over the past 50years. It also states historical development such as the Poor Laws and the development of health care Acts. It is an easy to read format and includes self assessment which is very useful. This book is suitable for all whether looking at social policy for the first time, or as one with social policy knowledge.

I bought this alongside Social Welfare Alive by Stephen Moore and it was one of the best purchases of text books that I have ever bought.Well laid out and clearly written it is accessible to all, I used it for my A'Level equivalents and through my first 2 years of uni, I will most likely use it in my 3rd year. A great book for anyone who wants to read about social policy and social welfare.
