Product Description

Album Description

First single from the newest addition to Manchester’s music legacy, featuring the epic and ambitious ‘Summer Sun’. Social Music Volume 1 was recorded, practically single-handed and draws influences from Bob Dylan to Public Enemy, Lee Scratch Perry to Nation of Ulysses and Arthur Lee to Primal Scream; yet each composition stands alone as classics in the making.

From the Artist

Despite their indie sound Oar seemed to have found affection with the left of centre dance music fraternity. Their many gigs have included London’s Heavenly Social, Manchester’s Mat and Phred’s Jazz Club ably assisted by Martin Brew, one half of East West signing J-Walk, and the Arts and Music festival Wonderland. Most notably Oar headlined the out door music festival Across the Tracks alongside Mr Scruff, Lamb and Riton. This unintended association has resulted in comparisons to Primal Scream and the Stone Roses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oar Debut, 11 Nov 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Social Music Volume 1 (Audio CD)
Oar, were Manchesters best kept secret for a long time. 'Summer sun' is a great song in itself but then erupts into an extended 'Primal Scream' esque extended guitar frenzy that is the icing on the cake. 'Long time Gone' is simply timeless, its one of tracks that you think youve always known and has always been somewhere in you head but Oar actually realised it and wrote it. Watch Out, there gonna be massive!!
