My requested review by Que 1 Nov 2010
By Andrew Ballenthin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I was asked by Que to give a professional review of this directory and sent a free copy. I found this book offers a great starting point for people that are in the beginning stages of making their transition into following organizations in social media. The benefit of its contents is for general living information such as, Health, Home, Hobbies and 12 other generic topics.

Overall it is a good start at trying to catalog a rapidly changing world of organizations that can be found online. I look forward to seeing where they go with this exercise and can imagine this to be a bi-annual directory. This book is a great start if Que is seriously interested in cornering the space of helping beginning and non technical social media users simplify their online searching.

This book is not for intermediate or advanced social media participants as you will find that your own search tools probably exceed what this book delivers. I did find the title to be misleading as the book's contents are not on social media topics (social media specialized PR, consultants, agencies, measurement services, technology firms, etc.). I would hope future editions offer this clarification.

Social Media - The UNK UNKS 11 Sep 2010
By Jason L. Mcdonald - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Social Media - how do you know what your missing? That's what we call the UNK UNKS. The "unknown" "unknowns."

That was why I bought this book: to find NEW resources for LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook for my students. I teach Social Media online, and in San Francisco... But I am always worried I am missing out on the next big thing, the latest Social Media tool, that special hidden resource that will help my students better understand Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

This book is TOTALLY not that. It isn't a list of useful Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn resources AT ALL. It is, instead, a huge list of all sorts of companies and organizations and their own Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages. So if you want to find stamp sites and their social media... it's sort of helpful. Or find out that Whole Foods has a blog and a Twitter account. But is that very useful? Not so much.

If you are looking for resources on LinkedIn, Twitter, and/or Facebook - such as Facebook widgets, or how to identify the top Twitterers... this book doesn't work.

I research those (and publish them) for my online students. You can Google Jason McDonald plus SEO to find me, and if you know of some cool tools - let me know. This book, unfortunately, is not that.
Not What I Expected 19 Jun 2011

I probably should have checked it out more carefully but this book was not as complete as I had expected and did not contain the information I needed.
