Product Description

Review

"A very useful text for students [who] may not specialise in work with children and families…very useful format and comprehensive coverage" (Senior Lecturer, UCE)

Product Description

Working with children and families is a challenging, skilled and rewarding area of social work practice. It involves working in diverse settings with various groups of professionals, such as the police, schools, hospitals and community organisations. The current edition of this popular book has been updated to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to undertake essential work with children. It also explores social workers values and attitudes in relation to the safety of children and includes references to important legislation such as Every Child Matters, Working Together 2006 and the Adoption and Children Act 2002.

Like most of the books in this series these are good general base knowledge books. It covers the information in a simple to read format and simple enough language. Personally I thought this book was too surface level and too general and I used it very little, mainly just as a quick reference. If you really are starting from scratch and you need a book to spell out the basic principals to you then this is the book for you. If you like to think a little deeper and are aiming for a high mark you may need to look else where. The price, as texts go is however quite attractive and this is probably the reason why I bought it.
