Product Description

Product Description

Mark is a boy who wants what we all want: to love and be loved. His dreams are realized when he meets Taylor, the boy of his dreams. The boys struggle to keep their love hidden from a world that cannot understand, but ultimately, no secret is safe in a small Mid-western town.

The Soccer Field Is Empty is a story of love, friendship, understanding, and an age-old prejudice that still has the power to kill. It is a story for young and old, gay and straight. It reminds us all that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect and that there is nothing greater than the power of love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply a GREAT BOOK 5 Sep 2008
Format:Paperback
A truly GREAT READ, yes the Author keeps going on about how our 2 Heroes Mark and Taylor love each other and also about their great physique for most of the first half of the book. But it does become clear later why he did it and once you are halfway trough you will find it hard to put the book down and by the end you will have tears in your eyes and rush to order the sequels "Someone is Watching" and "A Better Place". I finished all 3 books within a week and ordered all other books in the Gay Youth Chronicals Series earlier today. Regardless if you are 15 or 35 years old, any Boy who has ever been in love or even just had a crush on another guy during their teens will Lough and Cry with Mark and Taylor until the very last page, this Book is just so much more than a simple Love story - it is an Adventure based on a love story of 2 very young Men

3.0 out of 5 stars The 1st in the series... 2 July 2008
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is the first novel in the 'Gay Youth Chronicles' series by Mark Roeder and its a fair, but not excellent start.

The text is heavily repetative, plus the initial chapters are so slushy and unbelievable that I put the book down on several occasions as I couldn't stand to continue. However, reference is made to the story of Mark & Taylor in later (and better) novels in the series and so I was determined to continue, which I did, and was rewarded with a sad, harrowing ending which highlights better than other books the possible result of school bullying, descrimation and hatred.

If you intend to read other books in this series (such as the wonderful 'A Better Place') then you must read this first otherwise surprises will be spoiled and you'll never know how everything started.......
