5.0 out of 5 stars A great guide! 30 Jan 2013
By Crystal - Published on Amazon.com

I have always wanted to hand make soap, so when I came across this very cute book I know it was time to learn! Author Cherie Benjamin takes you step by step to create truly, anything you want! You see how to manipulate color, smell, and most importantly where good places to buy the ingredients are. I can't even go to the grocery store and buy soaps any more, I feel as though I'm just wasting money when I can go home and make as much as I would like for half of the cost. I checked out the DVD (I'm such the visual learner) and that did wonders. I show my friends, use the techniques at bridal showers, and most of all just have a great time doing it! A well written guide, I would recommend this to anyone and everyone.

In my family crafting is a way of life. My grandmother, mother, and I cycle through different crafting interests from time to time. I love this book as it is a very simple and concise guide to soap making. The author, Cherie Benjamin, gives precise and concrete directions to guide you through the soap making process. Cherie gives you several recommended suppliers and does her best to help you keep your prices down. In the book she shows you how to make soaps that would be great for personal use, bridal or baby showers, Christmas, birthdays, Mother's day, or gift baskets. If you are looking for a great no-nonsense guide to soap making this book is a great start and well worth the money for all of the information. I loved all the cute and playful soap designs featured in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book for anyone interested in soap making 20 April 2014

I’ve had problems with my skin for as long as I can remember. I’ve seen various skin specialists over the years for my eczema and have tried many different creams but nothing seems to have any lasting effect.

A few weeks ago I decided to see a naturopath. Now, I’m somewhat of a sceptic and I’d always considered naturopaths to be little more than modern-day witch doctors. Anyway, I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The things she said made a lot of sense. Especially the things about diet and all the harmful chemicals we expose ourselves to on a daily basis. She pointed out that commercially produced soaps were almost definitely doing me more harm than good and recommended trying less harsh cleaning products.

I came back all gung-ho and decided to look into making my own soaps. At least then I would know what was in them! I discovered this wonderful book and found it to be an excellent resource for a beginner like myself.

The book is well researched and well written. The author obviously loves what she does and this comes through in her writing. There are many pictures and the book is a very enjoyable and informative read. She gives you all the information you need to get you started making your own soaps. There is even a section for those who want to get into it more seriously and make a business out of it.

This is an excellent book and I highly recommend it to anyone who might be interested in making their own soaps. I can’t wait to get started myself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Soapmaking! 3 April 2014
By John Allan - Published on Amazon.com

I bought this book because I wanted to find an easy way of making my own soaps WITHOUT LYE (caustic soda) .A friend of mine recommended it and I’ so happy that I did !
This is a great little book that does NOT ONLY cover cupcake soaps. The author shows you how to make a variety of great unique designs . ALL soaps are made with a mould including those with lye. The difference is that this is the melt and pour method. You can still use different oils, fragrances, and natural additives to make your soap unique.
The problem with some soap makers who only use lye, is that they disapprove of anything that’s not made from scratch with lye. This doesn't suit me as I live in an apartment with my kids and a dog. If you've ever seen what happens if lye is spilt on a child or pet then you’ll know why I dislike using the stuff. A soap making friend who uses lye, said he’s constantly getting caustic soda in his nails and it really burns (and he does it for a living).

I agree with CBEC FIRM’s review this book doesn't disappoint it’s a great book for beginners and those who want to create soaps with their kids without having to wear all the safety gear-Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars No more itchy skin! 9 Aug 2014
By Dalibor - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I made my first soap in a couple minutes for my sisters bridal shower, since I know that she's suffered from itchy skin all her life and just now realized, at the age of 26, that it was because of the soap. I gave her a cute heart shaped box soap that I made using the moulds that the author recommends. After all, the last thing she needs are rashes and itchy skin before her wedding! I couldn't recommend this book any higher. She says the soap has softened her skin for her wedding and she adored the design.
