5.0 out of 5 stars A pint glass full of pure inspiration 2 May 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I both learn and find inspiration by reading stories of other people who have done what I want to do.

By that measure, this book is underpriced! I'm barely halfway through, and I am thirsting for another edition! (Preferably one with me featured in it, having implemented everything I've learned.)

Joel has left his contributors to write their stories their own way, not correcting style or grammar. So while it sometimes comes across as coarse and unrefined, you know that you're getting the real deal.

Much obliged, Joel!

5.0 out of 5 stars So simple, it's GENIUS! 4 Oct 2013
By Myia - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
Who knew the neighbors were geniuses? Personally, the book is this introvert's practical guide to discovering the greatness that exists around you. I've realized how connected we all truly are, despite our divergent paths and passions. In each story there is an inspiring tale of how challenges and disappoints can be overcome with grace and perseverance to reveal the hero, the champion, the genius within. It's amazing how so much can come from simply sharing your story - no matter how ordinary and mundane it seems to you. I am encouraged. Not only did I glean inspiration from these stories, but my eyes have been opened to see that maybe (just maybe) my simple life makes me a genius, too, and that there's someone out there whose life will be changed when they hear my story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting wisdom from everyday people 12 Oct 2013
By lyn rosen - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
The Genius Next Door offers the personal insight gained by people who have taken their life experiences and constructed these to positively define and direct their future. I felt that each of these writers described unique ways of successfully transforming their lives.. As an artist and therapist, I particularly resonated with the idea of viewing one's life experience in a multilayered way by integrating disparate elements. In particular, Mike Ogorek's eloquent analogy of playing jazz to living life, gives an exceptional description of how one's capacity for innovation, fluidity and responsiveness to others can epitomize human communication at its finest!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational 12 Oct 2013
By Terry L., Brock - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
Good ideas from a lot of real-world people. This inspirational book is ideal to get a "quick jolt of good" when you need some ideas. It is packed with stories about individuals who succeeded in spite of difficulties. I also loved the practical guides showing how to make progress. Good to have this hanging around when you need that quick "pick me up" from an inspirational text. - Terry Brock

5.0 out of 5 stars Unique Talents and the Value they bring to others . 12 Oct 2013
By John C - Published on
One of my hero's is the Apostle Paul, as I studied his story, he was passionate about his work for The Lord, but what really impressed the most is that not only did he have the time to evangelize but he also supported himself financially by working.

I say that to say this the stories that are in this book are by people who looked at the bigger picture and dedicated themselves to turning their passion into service that benefited others.

Examples from many walks of life and stories that inspire.

Great read.
