Product Description

Born a wealthy French heiress but betrayed into bondage, Brigitte de Louroux swears she will never be any man's slave.

Rugged and powerful Rowland of Montville sees only a beautiful enchantress in peasant's rags -- a wench to serve his every need. Defenseless against his unbridled passions, Brigitte is forced to yield her innocence to desires the warrior lord arouses in her heart. But her surrender will vanquish the handsome knight - awakening within him a love as mighty and relentless as his conquering sword.

Even though I first read "So Speaks the Heart" over seven years ago...this is one of the few Lindsey books that still is etched in my mind till this very day. I must've read it over 20 times. It is truly one of her very best works so far and is a real page turner. The characters are very well developed and some scenes are so touching it feels like your actually in the story. If you claim to love a Lindsey and have never read "So Speaks The Heart"....for goodness sake....What are you waiting for?

I've began to reread my JL collection and I must say that this is still one of my favourites. The story is a classic. The emotion in this book was rivetting. I totally felt her desolation as she lied to Gui to protect him for Rowland.

"So Speaks the Heart" is a story set in Medieval France in A.D. 972.It is full of adventure, action, betrayal and a love of two strong leading characters Brigitte of Louroux and Rowland of Montville. Brigitte is a beautiful young woman, heiress to Louroux after her brother's death at the hand of Saracen pirates.
She is desperate to get away from her brother's aunt Druoda's terror to Count Arnulf who is her guardian. Druoda is a greedy bad-tempered woman who does everything to gain power over Brigitte and the Louroux lands. She makes Brigitte work as a servant until she would marry an old and week lecher. Rowland is the bastard son of Luthor of Montville a cruel and hard warrior at whose hands he suffered since his childhood but who wants him to be his heir. The situation gets more exciting when the reader finds out that Quintin, Brigitte's brother is alive and he saved Rowland's life. Rowland wants to repay him by going to Brigitte and tell her about Quintin's whereabouts. Unfortunately Druoda meets Rowland first and she convinces him about Brigitte's being a servant and makes him to take her away with him. They don't like each other from the beginning. He doesn't trust a word she says but he is powerfully attracted to her. Brigitte hates him she thinks he is a brigand but Rowland awakens her heart and body and she starts falling in love with him. Both characters are fully developed, strong and stubborn. Brigitte does everything to madden Rowland but Rowland is helpless against her charm. There are many secondary characters wonderfully alive and making this story very exciting and entertaining. The author introduces her characters in a very clear way with all their faults and passions as well.
SO SPEAKS THE HEART is another of Johanna Lindsey's masterful storytelling. She shows the era and its people with all their cruelty and beliefs. The book is full of action and it never slows down. It captures the reader's attention until it's surpriseful conclusion.
