4.0 out of 5 stars Neil's Megafantastic Review, 16 Nov 2002
This one was written before the Book of the Crow, and isn't as well written. Nonetheless, it's still very good. I like the setting - icy place, kind of like Cool, Cool Mountain on Mario 64. Catherine Fisher always has an interesting setting or premise to her books. No generic fantasy hokum here.

This review is from: The Snow-walker's Son (Red Fox Older Fiction) (Paperback)
Anyone fascinated by the Vikings or Norse mythology will love this trilogy, which starts with the Snow Walker's Son. Fisher tells a gripping tale of how the evil witch-queen Gudrun exiles her small son Kari to a fortress in the North, and sends two other children to join him when their fathers have failed in an attempted coup. Jessa, the heroine, is braver and cleverer than her companion, but they are joined by a skald or minstrel who clearly knows more about Kari than he lets on. For Kari is not what rumour has him to be, and has powers of his own....

I've recommended this trilogy to countless children of 8 and upwards, and my daughter has read it twice. Thrilling and beautifully written it deserves to be much better-known.

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb novel, 18 Aug 2000

This review is from: The Snow-walker's Son (Red Fox Older Fiction) (Paperback)
I was actually taught by Catherine Fisher in primary school. She was one of the best teachers in there. I was addicted to all of her novels, especially the Snow Walker's Son trilogy. I could not put the books down! I think that Catherine Fisher has a mind boggling mind and the way she portrayed this in her books is amazing. This story is 10/10 and I would recommend it to children and adults alike!
