Product Description

In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her.  But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her.  Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.

Definitely not your average retelling of the classic Snow White fairy tale, Snow White and the Huntsman is a dark, action-fantasy film that's based more on the Brothers Grimm fairy tale than the well-known Disney version of the story. It features intriguing concepts, impressive special effects, and some disappointingly lackluster acting.

The essence of the "Snow White" story is preserved in this recounting: the queen's beautiful daughter Snow White, who is heir to the throne, is displaced and persecuted by an evil stepmother after her mother dies. Here, the evil stepmother Ravenna possesses a disturbing power to maintain her own perpetual youth by stealing youthfulness from the hearts of the young and beautiful, but her magic mirror warns that Snow White's innocence and purity as she comes of age will destroy Ravenna's chance at immortality. When Snow White escapes from the castle prison, Ravenna hires a downtrodden Huntsman to bring her back so that Ravenna can steal her youth and achieve personal immortality. But Snow White runs into a dark and sinister forest where mushrooms disperse hallucinogenic spores, trees come to life, flocks of bats spring from inanimate objects, and dwarves lurk in the shadows. The roles of the seven dwarves and the Huntsman in this version of the story prove to be quite different from the original, but what remain steadfast are Snow White's inner strength and absolute goodness, and her stepmother's innate evilness.

This film is full of fascinating imagery that's brought to life through powerful special effects, great costuming, and captivating cinematography--the scenes in the dark forest and the fairy-filled wilderness beyond are reason enough to see it. Unfortunately, the story moves a bit slowly and the acting by Kristen Stewart (Snow White) and Chris Hemsworth (Huntsman) is rather stoical and passionless and lacks chemistry, though Charlize Theron does stand out as a particularly disturbing Ravenna. --Tami Horiuchi

The film exceeded expectations when released in the U.S. becoming a huge
box-office success.
Have to say, no surprise to me.
It is a visually stunning production.
'Same Story'.....yet, with a different spin for the 'Grimm's' fairy-tale.
Other than the 'Snow White' story starring 'Sigourney Weaver' this is perhaps
the darkest version yet.
Of course with 'Twilight' star 'Kirsten Stewart' in the lead role the film was
always going to attract a large audience.
Quite simply and enjoyable watch......awesome entertainment.

This was better than i was lead to expect. Okay,so it's not a brilliant film, but it does it's job and does it well.
It keeps to basic story, kind of,then adds a few slants to it,it entertained me and the special effects were stunning,so it would be petty to pick at little things.

Okay,so young girl loses mother, father is tricked by evil witch, gets married, killed, girl escapes, goes on the run is hunted down by a huntsman that is fooled into thinking this will bring his wife back, then the real action starts... and yes, dwarfs do come into it,though the likes of RAY WINSTONE as a dwarf tickled my funny bone.

The special effects are very impressive and the acting, for the most part,is great,i have nothing against K Stewart (TWILIGHT aside),so i can't see whay this gets so laid into,it's very entertaining.
I think anyone that fancies watching this, should watch it,i was not disappointed, but then i did wonder if i'd made a mistake in buying it. I didn't,just enjoy it for what it is.

But the movie is great. The effects - both visual and special - were amazing. Plain and simple. The scenery is fantastic and very well incorporated into the movie. Theron makes a convincing Queen, worthy of our fear. Hemsworth makes a believable drunken huntsman, lost in his own grief and Stewart delivers one of the best portrayals of one of the most recognisable fairytale characters. I was - along with a lot of other people, I'm sure - surprised and almost "shocked" at the uncharacteristic casting choices but after viewing the finished product I understood and agreed.
Some people write these reviews based solely on trying to tarnish the acting of an actor or actress. It's both rude and tacky.
The truth is, the movie is good. It's not Oscar worthy but I don't think I've ever read anything about it being in the running for a statuette. It's not as ground breaking as some apparently thought it would be, but it is fun and entertaining and I will gladly place it into my collection.

Simply the best Epic Movie since "Gladiator". A perfect blend of the hauntingly beautiful, fight scenes, top notch acting, special effects etcetera. This is also Kristen Stewarts best performance up to date. Although her performance, playing a disabled girl in "The Cake Eaters", is also great. Tons of more Girl Power here than in the rather lame role she had to play i "Twilight". Superb... Everything! (Comes from a guy who collects Criterion and film history in general).

I remember seeing the trailer for this and thinking the visuals looked quite impressive and it had a good cast so thought I'd take a look.
It turned out to be an entertaining retelling of the story. I was never really involved with the characters but it was good value as simple entertainment.
There are some fantastic looking visuals and everything from the production design to the costumes and effects are impressive. The cast is also great and it was a nice surprise to see how many well known and impressive actors there were amongst the dwarves.
Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth are solid and it's fun watching Charlize Theron get her crazy on.
Not really one for the young kids and not really clever enough to keep adults hooked, this is kind of in the middle and might find an audience with teens and adults wanting to watch a bit of simple escapism.

I was intrigued by this film, and wondered what kind of take on Snow White this would be. It is very dark, darker than I thought it would be, and cleverly incorporates the recognisable elements of the original fairlytale into it without seeming to overdo it. Kristen Stewart, who I have only seen in Panic Room before this, gives an excellent performance. I don't know why she has been slated by others on here, as for me, she gave a believable and gritty performance.I liked the fact that she is a tough woman, battling another tough woman, and has an army of men in league with her-very refreshing when so many woman in Hollywood are shoved into the tiresome role of 'girlfriend' or 'sex kitten'. The rest of the cast are excellent too-Charlize Theron is really rather scary as the evil Queen! The visuals are beautiful and bleak and the music by John Newton Howard is lovely. I found this moving, well acted and highly enjoyable. Try it without having any preconceptions and you'll love it.

In past movies we have seen several different off takes form the original Snow White story. Each has its strengths. And as with Shakespeare each generation of contemporary actors have to try their hand at it. We have seen the cartoon version and even vicious witches and giant midget versions. This version displays the advances in CGI and loud noise between the dialogs forcing you to keep your finger on the volume control.

In this story we see Ravenna (Charlize Theron) was deprived as a child. Her mother told her that you can have everything if you just maintain your beauty. She strives to have it all by overcompensating and in the process a few people will have to be dispatched and others suffer their own depravation, oops deprivation.

Ravenna needs to obtain Snow White's heart to maintain that cute smirk. But for some reason Snow White (Kristen Stewart) prefers to keep her own heart right where it is and escapes with it to the black forest. Ravenna sends a forest savvy huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to bring back Snow White. Confronted with Snow's demise the huntsman becomes her ally in recovering her kingdom from its usurper.

We as viewers have to decide just whose side we are on. Even Snow feels sorry that she cannot share her heart.
