I first read the Snow Spider books when I was about 7 or 8 years old, and I loved it. I'm 23 now, and I still love it and bought the books for my friend's 11 year old daughter who's Potter-mad, and she loves it too. What else can I really say?

The trilogy binds Nain Griffiths (superbly played by Sian Phillips in the TV adaptation in the early 90's) and the children of the Griffiths, Lloyd and Llewelyn families over 4 years. The first story starts on Gwyn Griffiths' 9th birthday, 5 years after his 9 year old sister Bethan mysteriously vanished in the night when she left the house to find a lamb lost on the farm owned by the family. Gwyn's Grandmother, Nain, gives him 5 presents which will reveal Gwyn's destiny as a magician in the mold of the ancient wizards of welsh folklore. The first gift, a silver brooch, is taken by the wind and returns as Arianwen, the 'Snow Spider', who provides Gwyn's link with another world and the key to his powers.

Jenny Nimmo's words are spellbinding, drawing in the reader to the trials and tribulations of the children. There is love, jealousy, fear and magic woven into the tales leaving you wanting more, although you are left more than satisfied with this.

Gwydion Gwyn 23 Oct 2007
By SamB
Format:Paperback
I read all of the released Charlie Bone books and started to look around for more Jenny Nimmo work and came across this delightful trilogy.

I felt like it was just what I needed, a breath of fresh air and an easy read. Jenny Nimmo knows how to write to make you feel sucked into her books and I liked the overall familiarness that you feel with the characters in each part of the trilogy.

I recommend this to anyone anywhere as long as you are ready for a laid back and easy (but satisfying) read.

Samantha, aged 18.

This is the most fantastic story! So enchanting and magical. One really feels the fogy mysterious sent of Wales. These are three wonderful books of adventure, love, and death. Brilliant for children (and adults) of all ages and sexes. The perfect read on a cold winters eve…

More advanced readers than Charlie Bone
The complexity of the story means this book, in my opinion is suited to 10 year olds. Charlie Bone is better for younger readers. Read more
