I've read many of this authors novels set in the Polity and enjoyed them immensely. This short story was no exception.

It tells the story of the character, Snow, and his life on a desert world.

Unusually for a Neal Asher book, the ending it's genuinely happy, it could even be called a love story.

Don't get me wrong, I like Asher and most of his works, but this is a very very short story and has already been published with a collection of other stories by Asher called - "The Gabble and Other Stories (Polity)" This kindle edition sells for £0.46 and is definitely worth the money. Having said that "Snow in the Desert" is a good short story, I wish it had been a bit longer but it was entertaining enough. Do yourselves a favor and get the collection, much better value.

This story is included in the 2011 collection by Asher, The Gabble & Other Stories, which all Asher fans should have. Why can't he turn out a new novel every other month? Lazy so&so.

Warning to all fans, this short story was in a Best of SF yearly collection several years ago. So, if you were hoping for a brand new story on Snow, then you will be disappointed. If however, you've never read this short story then get it by all means - it was the first story that turned me on to the author and it is extremely well written.
