just to let people know, after you purchase this product, you need to pay an additional 50 pounds for a 12 month subscription to allow you to download spped camera updates. You must do this in order to use the camera detector.

After damaging my old radar detector, I thought that I'd "upgrade" to GPS detectors. Big mistake! Upgrading involves connecting to the PC but you have to know how to change the coms settings. When I got the device registered the first didn't work correctly, nor the second nor the third! Totally hopeless and since then have had a few others say the same. Wish I'd read the reviews

I've had an S2 for a week now and when it works it seems to do the job well. I installed the software and followed the simple instructions to activate the device. I've no idea what the other reviewer meant when he wrote "you have to know how to change the coms settings". That's simply not true! I plugged the S2 into the USB slot and it immediately updated itself, no problem at all. So does it work? Sometimes! Basically there seems to be a problem with it actually finding and staying linked to a satellite. A green light shows when it's connected but it's taken up to 25 minutes of driving for it to connect after being switched on (usually it takes a few minutes) which is ridiculous! My phone GPS doesn't have a problem finding a satellite so I don't know why the S2 does. Another problem is that even when it has connected it will often lose it again and go back to search mode. In my experience so far it's only worked about 60% of the time. That said when I tested it on a local speed camera it did work well and warned me in good time that I was approaching it. I repeated the test several times and it didn't fail to alert me. Anyway I'm going to email Snooper to find out if I should expect a better service than I'm currently getting and if they'll do anything about it.

Also people should be aware that the updates are free for this product now if you buy new and that there is no extra monthly fee to pay.

EDIT: I'm unable to change the star rating but after a few weeks use I'd give this 4 out of 5. It does a decent job for the price.
