Definitely one for the Backyard Babies fans out there! Scandinavia seems to be the new sleaze rock capital of the world and these boys are no exception. The sound is hardly original, borrowing heavily from the late lamented Hanoi Rocks but also from the L.A. sleaze scene of the late 80's (Guns and Roses and Faster Pussycat etc.)and the result is an album which, although lacking in variety, packs one hell of a catchy punch. One standout track is the first single "someone special" which sounds like some bizzare love child of the Backyard Babies and (believe it or not) Oasis! Jocke Berg has a fine voice which falls between Axl Rose on the early GnR albums and the gruffer sound of the Backyard Babies' Nicke Borg. Silver Silvers guitar playing is colourful enough to churn out some truly monstrous hooks. A little more variety would have made this a complete classic but as it is, it would sit perfectly alongside Total 13 by the Backyard Babies in any sleaze fans cd collection.

Turbo-Kickass Rock 'n' Roll 16 April 2004
By Jimmy Thunders - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This disc is awesome! I can't say enough about it. These guys blast through hardcharging originals without once letting up - tuneful, melodic, heavy - it's all there. They have some killer "ballady-type" songs on here, notably "Liberation" and "Someone Special" (usually I can't stand these kinds of tunes, but on this album they're some of the standouts). There isn't a bad song on the album. If you're a fan of Guns 'n' Roses' "Appetite for Destruction", guitar shredder Tracii Guns & L.A. Guns or any of the good Sunset Strip rock bands, you really gotta' get this album.
Ready for some real (fun) rock n' roll? 22 Oct 2009

Originally released in 2000, Bad Sneakers and a Pina Colada is the debut album from Swedish rockers Hardcore Superstar. I only recently discovered this band with their 2009 release Beg for It, but that album was more than enough to get me to start tracking down the rest of this great rockin' band's back catalogue.

Hardcore Superstar is essentially the antidote to boring post-grunge rock bands. They're a hard rocking band that was raised on a steady diet of Motley Crue, Guns n' Roses and Skid Row. They take all of the best elements of that 80's rock sound, strip away the cheese, and add a hefty dose of Swedish melody and an almost punk rock attitude and energy. They make rock n' roll fun again, and how many bands can you really say that about these days? Listening to Bad Sneakers and a Pina Colada is a gloriously upbeat dose of glam/sleaze/punk rock, and the fact that the album came out when bands like Creed and Staind ruled the charts makes it all the more remarkable. I won't bother listing the album's best songs, because they're all good and they all rock.

If you miss the kind of rock n' roll music that you grew up with, do yourself a favor and check out Hardcore Superstar. You won't regret it. After that, be sure to check out bands like CrashDiet, Dirty Penny, Airbourne and Endeverafter. Like Hardcore Superstar, they're flying the flag of real, fun, rock n' roll.
Sadly, about 16 years too late, but still worth every penny! 14 Sep 2003

From Sweden comes the band L.A. could not produce in the 80's. Hardcore Superstar is everything Poison, Warrant, hell...even Motley Crue could never have been. This is the first band to capture everthing Hanoi Rocks created since Gn'R. While those bands may say they were never trying to recreate the magic of Hanoi....they should have....they may still have a career....What H.S. does is exciting. It music that is fun, energetic, and full of hooks...It is a shame that this album comes out in this era, as they will probably be lost on the newer generation of music listeners.....you won't hear drum machines, loops, or samples here....just honest, aggressive, rock n' roll....this album is to glam what 'white blood cells' is to the garage. This album won't make you angry, it won't make you cry, it won't make you hate your parents, teachers, that guy that beat you up in third grade.....it will make you smile, and remember that rock n' roll should be a fun escape....
Mmm Mmm Good 19 Jun 2002

This is Hanoi Rocks, Guns 'N' Roses, and Buckcherry all rolled into one, with a healthy dose of Scandinavian punk. And it's A-okay. This is the type of band you won't want to tell your friends you like, because it feels like a true guilty pleasure.
