You couldn’t invent the story of Nazareth if you tried. At their peak, the Dunfermline rock group were huge, selling vast quantities of albums and pulling in enormous crowds to their shows. By rights, when the group’s profile receded a little and they morphed into the highly respected club-level regulars that they are today, their reputation should have become tarnished – but ... Product Description

CD Description

With additional guitarist Billy Rankin and keyboard maestro John Locke on board, Nazareth produced this potent live document during their 1981 North American tour. This version is augmented by bonus tracks drawn from the Seattle leg of the tour plus two further studio cuts by this new incarnation of the group. Whether you call Nazareth s first live album It s Naz or Snaz (sometimes Snaz, thanks to the somewhat ambiguous sleeve art), there is no denying its presence. On its release in 1981, they had been operating professionally for 13 years and were at the peak of their considerable powers. In fact, Nazareth were so at home on stage that they chose an entire show for the Snaz LP, feeling that one continuous performance would represent them better than a compilation of songs culled from a variety of gigs. That show was their May 1981 performance at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver. Canada was something of a Nazareth heartland. The boys had built a large and loyal Canadian fanbase over the previous decade and they now appeared in a six-piece line-up that had drawn praise for the depth of its sound. When you get to the lush, choral backing vocals of Heart s Gone Cold, for example, you ll hear how easily the band collaborated and how they had swiftly become more than the sum of their considerable parts. This upgraded, full-fat sound also suited Nazareth s heavier numbers perfectly, while the band possessed more than enough musical dexterity to hold back when more atmospheric songs required it. Though Nazareth have released six live albums since 1981, including two consisting of BBC sessions, there is something particularly satisfying about this set and it has always been a fan favourite. Indeed, as live rock statements go, Snaz is up there with the very best, especially (we like to think) in this expanded version. Their late drummer, Darrell Sweet, regarded it with great affection, saying in 1992: What was really good was listening back to all our performances in the truck. It was a very exciting time for us. Getting John and Billy in the band was a great move.

5.0 out of 5 stars Power And The Glory. 13 Feb 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
OK,I admit i am slightly biased, In that i have always loved everything that this band have done.At the last count i have 4 different versions of this cd(Vinyl, original cd release,And two import versions)The main difference with this version is that there are extra rare tracks added from a Seattle concert from the same tour as this cd was recorded from (The original cd recording was made in Vancouver.I must also admit that i am not a great lover of live cds,They sometimes are released as either a record company cash in,When a band has moved on to another label or when a band has run out of ideas for a new studio recording. This is one exception to the rule,It will go down as(in my opinion one of the great live cds)Alongside Live And Dangerous,Stupity(Dr Feelgood),Frampton Comes Alive And Rainbow On Stage. The real plus with this cd is the brilliant job done by Salvo on the remastering plus the excellent re-packaging.My advice go get this cd, it really is a great listen,Then put it on,turn the volume up full and listen to a great british band at the peak of their powers.

4.0 out of 5 stars snaz live better late than never 18 Oct 2011

A thoroughly entertaining live double disc form Nazareth recorded live 1981,this remaster has several live bonus tracks from Seattle and bizarrely replicates 2 bonus studio cuts that are on the FOOL CIRCLE remaster.

This is the best sound quality i've heard this release have, much fuller sounding than before, superb packaging as is to be expected from a Salvo reissue.

Must admit i've always felt that Nazareth missed the boat with this release, they should have released a live disc a couple of years before, live doubles were passe by 1981 and didnt really have the same impact as they did in the 70's,much as i like the disc,i always thought it was a mistake to have 6/18 tracks from the 2 previous(less celebrated disc) to the exclusion of anything from NO MEAN CITY and the loss of favourites like Bad Bad Boy/Broken Down Angel.

The truth is,despite being a great album its not,IMHO, a career defining live album such as KISS ALIVE/FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE/STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT/LIVE AND DANGEROUS etc,the bands career path was already dipping.Having said that love it for what it is rather than what it could have been, play it loud and enjoy

5.0 out of 5 stars 2nd best live album ever 27 April 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Ok , so i am the latest to review this album and i agree with much said by the others. In my humble opinion only second to Thin Lizzy live and dangerous. Nazareth at their peak and a great blues/rock album to loose yourself in. I love this album for the take on Cocaine and Java Blues. yes other tracks could have been placed on it, but other live cd's do this. i had this first as a vinyl double and the additional material on the new cd from the same tour for me spoils it. i would have prefererred those missing tracks. However this is an album to sit and listen to with a beer in one hand the volume high. if you only get one live's this one...and if your new to NAZ..try it. Saw them live last month and they still cut it. great in the car too.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic live album 1 April 2011
By ghost
Format:Audio CD
this is my favorite Nazareth record, these songs played live are even more special, have special energy;
I already owned the 1996 release but unfortunately four songs for reasons of space had not been included (they had then been put on "the fool circle" remastered edition as bonus)
now the cd is available with all the songs and a host of bonus tracks, the remastering is excellent (as well as for the other salvo reissues)

an edition so good at a price so cheap is definitely a bargain

highly recommended
