More About the Author

"Peter May is a writer I'd follow to the ends of the earth" New York Times

Peter May is the multi award-winning author of:

- the award-winning Lewis Trilogy set in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland;
- the China Thrillers, featuring Beijing detective Li Yan and American forensic pathologist Margaret Campbell;
- the Enzo Files, featuring Scottish forensic scientist Enzo MacLeod, which is set in France;
and Entry Island (January 2014, Quercus UK) the latest of several standalone books.

He has also had a successful career as a television writer, creator, and producer.

One of Scotland's most prolific television dramatists, he garnered more than 1000 credits in 15 years as scriptwriter and script editor on prime-time British television drama. He is the creator of three major television drama series and presided over two of the highest-rated serials in his homeland before quitting television to concentrate on his first love, writing novels.

Born and raised in Scotland he lives in France.

After being turned down by all the major UK publishers, the first of the The Lewis Trilogy - The Blackhouse - was published in France as L'Ile des Chasseurs d'Oiseaux where it was hailed as "a masterpiece" by the French national newspaper L'Humanité. His novels have a large following in France. The trilogy has won several French literature awards, including one of the world's largest adjudicated readers awards, the Prix Cezam.

The Blackhouse was published in English by the award-winning Quercus (a relatively young publishing house which did not exist when the book was first presented to British publishers). It went on to become an international best seller, and was shortlisted for both Barry Award and Macavity Award when it was published in the USA.

The Blackhouse won the US Barry Award for Best Mystery Novel at Bouchercon in Albany NY, in 2013.

A gripping thriller (The Mirror on THE FIREMAKER)

A gripping page-turner which combines edge-of-the-seat suspense with a fascinating picture of modern China making its painful transition to a market economy. (Irish Independent on THE KILLING ROOM)

a fascinating series, although this book, with it's detailed autopsy of the dismembered victims, is not for those with weak stomachs. (The Sunday Telegraph on THE KILLING ROOM)

A spell-binding and frighteningly realistic tale (Aberdeen Evening Express (Snakehead))

Plotted as igeniously as ever... set pieces are as convincing as ever... with a special final twist settting up a return to China for book five! (Highland News)

These books get better and better. I never want to put them down. Since I discovered Peter May as an author via The Black House I have been enthralled by his writing. It's pacey, exciting, does not contain gratuitous sex and is altogether mature and well put together. Having finished reading Snakehead I had to immediately download the 5th in the series to follow the story of Li Yan and Margaret Campbell. I only hope that Peter can come up with some more stories in the Lewis series.

Snakehead was an excellent read. For those who have read the China Thrillers this a brilliant continuation of the story. East meets West on western soil this time. I just couldn't put it down.

Li Yan and Margaret Campbell are back together, in Houston this time (the last book I read in this series took place in Beijing). They are looking for the person who caused the death of over 90 chinese illegal aliens who've died from suffocation in a truck during entry into the country. This brings us into the Chinese community of Houston, Tx., including its Chinese mafia, which is just as interesting as the two protagonists' near-impossible mixed-race relationship. I highly recommend this author.

Really enjoyed this as much as the first 3 in the series. I am rationing them as I have read all his other books and will have to find another author to take his place.

The Chinese set of 6 books are brilliant, I have just finished Snakehead the 4th one.
Peter May, tells a good gripping story and also has a wealth of knowledge and interesting
settings which he uses to keep you interested and gripped by the piece.
I am three chapters into the 5th novel and again, wanting it to unfold at a pace faster
than I am able to read it.
If you like a good, different type of detective book then Peter May is your author.

This series of books is so gripping and I love Peter May's style of writing. I didn't think anything would be as good as his Lewis Trilogy but I have been very pleasantly surprised. Although each book has a separate crime storyline the continuity of characters throughout the series draws you in to each new book.

I chose this rating because once I started reading this series I found I couldn't put the books down. Now on number 4 and they just get better.
