5.0 out of 5 stars awesome Stoner Doom 18 July 2004
By Carol Fryer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
this album RULES. it's trippy and psychadelic. it's monstrously heavy. it will bury you under tons of distorted chaotic groove. the first song, Blotch is a slowly escalating jam. The next song, Hopscotch, starts out with the insanely heavy and thick bass sound and then shows the band exploding at full force in their chaotic style of riffing. The next song is the beautiful psychadelic and very unique Lacrimosa.

after that is Adio, one of my favorites, one killer groovin riff after another. here you have Ufomammut straight out rocking, and yes it is delightfully heavy. following this is the similarly tremendous "God" which is the reason i bought this album. it still holds up as my other favorite. God is based around ufomammut's catchiest groove, and they pile on layer upon layer of distortion and affects.

after the trippy affects of alcool, there is braindome, another monster of throbbing bass and madness.

the last song is "Demontain", a 28 minute trip that will put you in a trance and rock your mind.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! BUY IMMEDIATELY.

4.0 out of 5 stars "All sound, everything outside of me stops..." 25 Jun 2007
By Longplay - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This album isn't uniformly excellent but it has more than its share of great moments. And the first three tracks comprise one of the tightest, most engaging passages of through composed music in heavy metal. Blotch starts from near silence and builds a sense of anticipation for six minutes, repeating a single note again and again over a tense, looping bass riff. Hopscotch then releases the tension with a three minute space-thrash frenzy that almost bridges the gap between Nirvana and Isis. Album centerpiece Lacrimosa then continues the momentum with a gorgeous, moving chord progression. Truly weird stuff.

Most of the songs on this album are conceptually pretty simple--usually two or three riffs and a lot of repetition, but the production is intricate, meticulous and rewarding. Samples are interwoven with electronic effects, mixed over super-heavy distorted bass and guitars. The samples are particularly well chosen, creating a pseudo-narrative that moves things along both within, and between, songs.

At its best, Snailking manages to be both visceral and cerebral, and is a worthy addition for anyone who enjoys intelligent, heavy music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dare I say it? 7 April 2008
By D. Bellard - Published on Amazon.com

These guys have replaced Electric Wizard as my go-to Doom fix? Yes. This album absolutely floors me. Heavy and pounding. Do yourself a favor, don't bother with EW's Witchcult Today - but this monster instead.
