About the Author
Miriam Moss' publications include 'The Sunshine Cat' for Orchard, 'Arctic Song' for Frances Lincoln and 'The Snoops' for Templar. Miriam lives in East Sussex. One of her favourite local bookstores is Waterstone's Superstore in Brighton. The illustrator - Lynne Chapman, who lives in Sheffield, has also published 'The Show at Rickety Barn' and 'Big Bad Wolf is Good', with Gullane Children's Books.

A must have story book 4 young children,

what a sweet story..smudge wakes up feeling grumpy, But soon all is forgotten when he meets his friends 2 have a lovely time. Read lots of stories to my children in the past but i have to say these books are lovely and was talked into reading them again and again. Great little books.

A book ages 4-7 can really relate to,

Smudge is a favourite in our house and this book was a good addition to our collection. My 5 year-old loves the story and really relates to the grumpy day Smudge has, asking for it to be read over and over. She likes that Smudge has many of the same feelings as she does on her own grumpy days, and is comforted and reassured that in the end, Smudge's friend Stripe continues to love and take care of Smudge despite her angry and frustrated outbursts with him. We all have grumpy days from time to time and this book lets little ones know it's okay to have those emotions, and that the grown ups in their lives will love them just the same. Aside from the story, the illustrations are wonderful and fun.

We bought this book through my son's Scholastic book club and it has quickly become a favorite. Even moms and dads can relate to Smudge as her morning goes horribly wrong (stubbed toe, buttons askew)! It's also a great book to illustrate to kids that everyone has a bad day that can get better and that everything will be OK.
