This is a fantastic read detailing the history of the Band and life on the road, the good and sad times, including the fatal accident that claimed the life of second lead vocalist Alan Barton. The book tells the story of how the band started during the school days of Terry Uttley and Alan Silson and how they chose vocalists Alan & Mike along with various tales from being on the road. Highly recommend this book to fans and those new to Smokie alike!

This is an absolute must for Smokie fans everywhere - but anyone who has ever liked Smokie will enjoy this book! Its an easy, enjoyable read which will make you laugh and smile a lot, then feel sad a bit, but also make you want to get out your old Smokie albums and enjoy the music and the memories it brings back to you.

I got the kindle version and was amazed that I was 30% of the way through the book before the name of the band changed to Smokie! Its a really behind the scenes version of a story I know well and a band I've always loved. I was interested to read not only how the original band got together but also how through the course of the years the line up has changed and evolved into the current 5 piece band which continues to tour and play across the world.

I had always assumed that once a band had 'hit the big time' and employed a manager that they would not want for money and life would be comfortable for them ... how wrong you can be! The inside story makes you realise how far the reality was from the finished image and how much hard work it has been and still is to keep Smokie alive and playing music.

Given some of the cheeky song lyrics (often changed ad hoc during live gigs) I've always thought there is a sexual energy around Smokie and so it was no surprise that there would be some bedroom antics in the book! However, lets just say Terry's stories are not quite what I was expecting lol!! Terry's love for his Mrs and his family shines through the pages of the book along with the fact that to this day he's a good hearted, grounded, hard working northern lad. I'm so glad he's shared his story :)

Brilliant honest insight into a great band. Enjoyed it from beginning to end, read it in a day and a half, very unusual for me. Emotional at times and amazingly funny as well, makes you feel many emotions. A must for all!!!!

For those of you who are Smokie fans this is a good book for the history of the band, although some of the facts in it, according to Terry are not correct. There are also many things that he has omitted, that all true Smokie fans would like the answers to, however sometimes personal feelings of the author and others have to be considered. All in all, a good read.

Beautifully written with a dialogue which just flowed. The content was revealing and I felt it showed great sincerity. A must for not only Smokie fans but as an insight to the trials and tribulations which face bands on a daily basis. Also it drove home how hard these people, with families, work and stay committed to their music and performances.

I bought this as a gift for my husband as he has met some of the band members several times through his job. He couldn't put it down and finished it in two days so I think it is safe to say he loved it and would highly recommend it whether you are a fan of Smokie or not.

As a long time Smokie fan since 1975 this was a book I just HAD to have and it didn't disappoint in any way. Fascinating to read from Terry's perspective how things all happened from the start and the experiences the guys have been through...from lineup changes to the sad death of Alan Barton (R.I.P Alan). It's a book I can definitely read again and it comes complete with some awesome photo's. :) Very well written Terry :) There's laughter and tears as you follow along their journey through the years. It's definitely not boring and I felt like I was riding along with them.. SMOKIE ROCK !

Smokie will always have a special place in my heart !
