Awesome novel !! 24 Aug 2011
By Sue
Format:Kindle Edition
A fantastic read, although the subject matter of this novel is not my usual genre, I was adding a few books to my kindle for reading material on my three week holiday and decided to give it a go after my friend had recommended it. The story is very addictive and kept me wanting to read on no matter how heavy my eyes were getting, the characters draw you in and the storyline is riveting. Although the language is strong and the violence brutal in parts it is done in such a way that is necessary to tell the story and does not overindulge by in cashing in on over use of such material. The main character is a complicated man and left me feeling conflicted, on the one hand he can be cold blooded and ruthless but on the other can show warmth and compassion to the young and vulnerable. This feels like a real insight into British cities and the underworld that controls them, cold, callous and dangerous.Highly recommended.

Smoke Without Fire

I stumbled upon this book quite by accident, when I read the description to find it is set in the seedy underbelly of my native Tyneside I decided to download the free sample which is pretty much the first chapter, I have to admit I was hooked, Lytton manages to delve into the human frailties of greed and ego without glorifying in fact, anything but, gangland life. The central character Peter Stanton is likable in a lot of ways yet capable of ruthless violence when he feels it's the last option. It has its fair share of twists and turns that keep you guessing. As I stated earlier this book certainly does not make a hero of the criminal characters or trivialise the life they lead within its pages and after the climax I was finding myself questioning my own moral belief system. I would strongly recommend this book to anybody looking for a good read that makes you ask questions of yourself. Try the free sample as I did and make your own mind up.Enjoy!

Gritty story! 19 Mar 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Good, gritty low life crime story set in Newcastle: the author creates very good down-to-earth scenarios and the pace of action remains good throughout the story. Good, credible crime fiction novel - read and enjoy!
