Sister Fidelma and her companion Brother Eadulf are on their way to visit the new Archbishop of Canterbury, when their ship is blown off course and they land on the coast of the Welsh kingdom of Dyfed. This is the eleventh title in the Sister Fidelma series but is also a stand alone mystery that is quite amazing. The evolution of the characters has been enjoyable and in this book, I found for the first time a pronounciation guide for Welsh and Irish words. There are two mysteries that need to be resolved and the addition of the Welsh prejudice against the Saxons made this book unlike the others. The explanations of Eadulf's background were quite interesting as well. My only regret is that I will need to wait several months for the next installment to be published. An amazing tale that I could hardly put down!

An absolute delight to read, the 10th Sister Fidelma mystery has her teamed up again with Brother Eadulf. A storm has forced their ship, on it's way to Canterbury for a pilgrimage, to set aground in the land of the Britons. Brother Eadulf, a Saxon, does not want to linger the country where his people are so hated. Fidelma has been asked to investigate the matter of a deserted abbey and also to accompamy a monk on his way to judge a young man of murder in a neighboring town. Both Fidelma and Eadulf are placed in mortal danger by a band of thieves. This band of thieves proves to be not only involved in the disappearance of the monks, but also of political intrique. Peter Tremayne has provided us with another remarkable work of mystery and hisory!

Peter Tremayne is the fiction pseudonym of a well-known authority on the ancient Celts, who has utilised his knowledge of the Brehon law system and 7th-Century Irish society to create a new concept in detective fiction.
The Sister Fidelma novels are taking on almost cult proportions and are becoming ever more popular with each offering from the author, whose obvious knowledge of the times and subjects he writes about shines out like a beacon on the shore.
