I was looking for an antique reproduction Rider Waite Smith Tarot deck and this is the best ive found. Most people in the UK seem to go for the so called 'Original Rider Waite' which although it does have nice faded colours also has a few things I dont like such as all the blues have turned to green from light exposure and many of the faces are red, blotchy or look redrawn? Look carefully at the Fool card compaired to the illustration in Waite's own Pictorial Key to the Tarot book and you will see what I mean. I can only assume that deck is more popular here because its the only version you see in shops in the UK these days. I think the publishers should change the front cover, although the additional cards with Pamela's artwork are a great addition I think it would be best placed on the back of the box so people know this is the iconic Smith Waite Tarot deck. I discovered that the Centennial edition deck is much preffered by Tarot collectors and readers outside the UK and now I understand why.

This deck has a much better range of colours which give a better idea of the original artwork as painted by Pamela. The faces are clear and in keeping with the artists style. The artwork has crisper black lines and unlike other reproduction decks the borders are not stark white but keep the off white vintage look all the way to the edges. Ive compaired this deck with other Rider Waite versions and I noticed that this one has more of the image on each card which says to me that this is a more authentic deck. See the King of Cups for a clear example of this, we now see the full fish in the sea. The card is semi matt and the deck is printed on nice thick card stock. I feel like im stepping back in time when I read with this deck, so beautiful and magical. If your looking for a high quality antique looking deck with muted colours, plenty of symbolic detail and countless books that work with the symbolism this could be the one for you.

A lovely edition of the Rider Waite cards. Colouring is lovely in subdued tones with hints of brighter colouring. This is the only Rider Waite deck l have bought that l feel comfortable and at home in reading with. l would recommend this tarot.

Maybe the art work could have been printed in brighter colours, but it is authentic and delightful. I would have like a little more in the booklet.

Brilliant. I don't get the bad reviews. Excellent quality cards and much better than the so called 'original' deck.

THIS is the essential "Rider-Waite" deck 12 April 2015
By Jasmine - Published on Amazon.com
I'm normally a Hanson-Roberts girl, but I wanted a version of the Rider-Waite tarot that I could have on hand when I wanted to use the traditional imagery or when I wanted to compare whatever deck I was using to the "golden standard." Because I love the HR deck, I was about to get the Universal Waite deck, which is the RW images colored by Mary Hanson-Roberts, but this deck caught my eye instead, and I sprung for it on a whim. SUCH a good decision. It's hard to beat the artist's color interpretation of her own work, and it feels like you're seeing these illustrations the way they were meant to be seen...finally. The coating on this deck is matte, adding to the vintage feel of this deck. The images are colorful, but the palette is subdued, and the cards have a wonderful aged, tea-stained look to them. No white is pure white in this deck. Everything carries the age of an original 1909 Rider-Waite tarot, and that adds a depth to the Rider-Waite imagery that I've never experienced with a RW deck until now. The colors are much more precise, too; where the traditional RW deck had colors bleeding outside the line art on occasion, that doesn't happen in this deck at all. Since there's less sloppiness, the images come across better and are easier to understand and interpret clearly. The colors and images are much clearer than the similar but less impressive "Original Rider-Waite Tarot" published in the 1990s.

As a deck independent of the Pamela Coleman Smith Commemorative Set, you don't get all the goodies about the history of the artist that would be included in the big boxed set, but the publishers are kind enough to include four cards of her non-tarot work, which is beautiful and a nice touch for someone who didn't invest in the whole shebang.

Definitely would recommend this deck as THE Rider-Waite deck to purchase (though it is definitely its own deck, and is rightfully called Smith-Waite after the artist who contributed so much to its beauty). Don't bother with the regular RW deck. Get this one instead.

Beautiful commemorative deck 17 May 2015

This commemorative deck is beautiful. Seeing this deck completely changed my perception of the RWS deck. I could not stand the thick lines and odd colors of the typical RWS runs and had used the Radiant version because of that. In this deck, the colors are more muted and appealing and appear to be faithful reproductions that showcase (simulate) the print technique of that time. They are absolutely beautiful and also include some bonus cards showing Smith's art.

My only beef is that the card backs are not similar looking production-wise to the faces (the backs are perfect modern printing style versus the more muted and dotted simulated older print style of the faces, which doesn't mesh well IMHO), so that difference bugs me but not in a significant way.

Wonderful deck!

I really enjoy this deck, I think it's better than original deck they have available, coloring I find nicer, backs are like off white with flower from the flag on the death card in the middle. Happy with purchase and would recommend to anyone who uses/collects tarot
