Product Description

Product Description

The girl that webcast from her basement in Tooting to thousands of people across the globe now releases her debut single ‘I wish I was a punk rocker (with flowers in my hair)’. Too broke to go on the road, 24 year old singer/songwriter Sandi Thom decided to set up a webcam in her South London flat and staged a three week world tour from the basement. She spread the word about the ‘21 Nights from Tooting’ tour via Myspace.com and her own site, inviting fans to watch the tour live on the web or in person at the very modest underground venue of her basement. Pulling in an audience of 70 on the first night, news of the gigs spread like wildfire on the internet and by the end of the ‘tour’ she had 100,000 web viewers from as far afield as Russia, the USA and Pakistan.

Drawing on a musical palette that varies from Bob Dylan and Jeff Buckley through Carole King and Stevie Nicks to Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin, Sandi Thom joins the dots between black and white music. The album Smile… It Confuses People seamlessly blends folk and soul strains and influences

5.0 out of 5 stars my favourite album bar none 1 May 2007
By Nic B
Format:Audio CD
i bought this album back when "i wish i was a punk rocker" was first released, after only hearing the song once. its not very often i go and buy an album based on hearing one song but the chance really really paid off this time.

i absolutely LOVE this album; Sandi Thom's voice, songwriting and style are unmatched in anything i've heard previous or since, she stands out from the crowd. her music appeals to all ages (i'm 21, i lent the cd to my dad n he liked so much that i got it for him for his birthday). and its very geuine, i've heard her recorded-live tracks from her basement and she really is as good as on the album. i'd love to see her live. the back story to this album just makes it more endearing, and you know that she was writing the songs for her not because it was what sells.

if you like KT Tunstall, Corinne Bailey Rae or Katie Melua then you'll like Sandi Thom.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's Not To Like? 7 Feb 2008
Format:Audio CD
This album is lovely, nice mix of lively and slower songs, and Sandi has an amazing voice. What If I'm Right is my favourite personally as I think is the same for many people.

I know people got fed up when her song was played ALL the time but really thats not her fault thats the DJ of the radio station. And as for people dissing the whole "webcam and bedroom" malarkey - why don't you go and try the same thing and come up with a successful number one single and a great album.... its probably much harder than you think.

Love this album, buy it - tis a treat for your ears!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!
Another songwriter/singer who produces songs which make you think (if you listen to the words). A very enjoyable CD from a very talented young lady.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sandi
I like this CD but don't love it as I thought I would. I wish Sandi would sing some tracks from Scotland. Her voice would be so well suited to singing Scottish Ballads. Read more

I had this on my i-pod 3 years ago and remembered how much I liked it then. Unfortunately the i-pod came to a sticky end and I never fully replaced the music on it. Read more

Some of the reviews below I think are unfair. This album is fun, it has some nice tracks and Sandi Thom can clearly belt out a good song. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter utter rubbish
What are you thinking? Do not, I mean do not but it. This the sound of cluelessness. Buy tapestry by Carol King instead. Because that's like this record, but good. Read more
