I have read this book several times to children aged between 3 and 5 years at a day care nursery and they love it!

They loved joining in with the phrase "It's Bathie Wathie time for you!" and are amused by all the things Great Aunt Bleach does to try and get Bill the dog to have a bath. They also think it is funny when Aunt Bleach falls into the compost bin.

The messier the story the more the children seem to like it.

I would certainly recommend this story book. The illustrations are colourful and the text is clear and simple.

All in all it is good fun to read. Everytime I ask the children if they would like one of my story books read to them, the most popular request is "Smelly Bill."

This is the first outing for a rather odourous canine called Bill and has had our family giggling mercilessly for quite some time now. Beautifully written and illustrated by Daniel Postgate, son of national treasure, the late Oliver Postage, Bill will do anything to avoid water and any form of getting clean. The family despair until they go on an outing, leaving Bill with someone who has HIM despairing before long. The formidable Great Aunt Bleach is led a merry dance by the pongy pooch until she finally gets the upper hand. The text has a magical rhyming quality to it, making reading it out loud an absolute joy. Go to town with the voice of Great Aunt Bleach and you'll have your little ones, (and not so little in my case), captivated. Bill has since been on an adventure with his cheesy chums in Smelly Bill Stinks Again and we can't wait for his 3rd outing to be released imminently as he falls in love. I hope that dear old Smelly Bill can become as lovable for children today as Bagpuss and The Clangers were for those of my generation.

Most important thing about this lovely fun perfectly rhymed book is that parents never get sick of reading it. I can't recommend it enough. We have read it to our 18 mos old since he was born. It was the first book he responded to from when he was very little. We think he liked the sounds. Wonderful. Thank you Mr Postgate. (think he is the son of the ivor the engine postgate - another family treasure.)

My five year old daughter and I love this book so much that we now know it off by heart. The rhyming is excellent, the story is very funny and illustrated with wonderfully wacky cartoon images. A real cracker and a joy to read. Every kid, and parent, who likes a laugh should own this great book. Highly recommended.

This is a great easy to read book. The only problem is, if you buy one smelly bill book you have to complete your collection by buying them all. This book is a rhyming look at Smelly Bills world which largely consists of avoiding the bath. It is a great bedtime read to and for children ages 0 to 10. Great for Dads and Lads, simple for dad to read and fun for lads to relate to the smelly dog. If you choose to buy this book consider:

Smelly Bill - Stinks Again Smelly Bill Stinks Again
Smelly Bill - Love Stinks Smelly Bill: Love Stinks

There is another book 'Smelly Bill's Whiffy Weekend' Smelly Bill's Whiffy Weekend however this is beautifully written in a different style to the three previous books mentioned. A great read but it is not a simple read before bed experience as the other three are. The Whiffy weekend book expands on family characters more and has an exciting story where bill gets in all kinds of scrapes.

My son adores these books and I enjoy reading them too him

My son is only 9 months, but he loves this book! He loves the pictures and giggles at the story and hands it to me to read again when it's finished. It's a fun read for both the child and adult. I'm thrilled to learn the Smelly Bill Smells Again! Off to order it now!

My 2 1/2 yr old daughter loves this book, especially when we read it in different voices. Speaking as a parent, it's one of my favourite to read as the rhythm is very catchy and gives it great momentum.

I would definitely recommend it.

I discovered Smelly Bill via my middle daughter who brought it back from school one day and we all became hard-core fans of this funny but sensitive smelly ball of hair. The characters of Bill and his terrible enemy Great Aunt Bleach are magnificent, the stories are fun and the illustrations perfectly adapted (with great facial expressions). The book is written in verses (well ryhmes) and is hence a pleasure to read. My three children laugh, but more importantly I take a huge pleasure reading it again and again to them.
