Product Description

CD Description

* The names of this cultish triumvirate spring off the page like a law firm but their business was writing and producing hits - or records that sounded like hits.

* Bob Feldman, Richard Gottehrer and Jerry Goldstein hit their stride in the mid-60s with a varied portfolio that included the US #1s `Hang On Sloopy' by the McCoys and `My Boyfriend's Back' by the Angels - and several chartmakers by the Strangeloves, the selfsame trio masquerading as a rock band.

* Initially, they specialised in girl groups - some real, some fabricated - and applied their distinctive touch to every one before moving into the rock field with the McCoys, the Strangeloves and the Sheep.

* Not for F-G-G the honeyed subtleties of a Burt Bacharach or Van McCoy. Hard rockers at heart, their gritty productions usually featured brutal rhythms in which the percussion was probably the most vital component. Yet, for all this, there were surprising moments of tenderness too, as reflected in songs such as Ray Pollard's `The Drifter', one of the great unsung soul ballads of the 60s.

* It's exciting stuff from end to end, much of it new to CD and all held together by the distinctive F-G-G production imprimatur.

* This collection comes to you with the full co-operation and involvement of Feldman-Goldstein-Gottehrer themselves and is packaged in a sumptuous booklet packed with rare memorabilia.

* Compiled by Rob Finnis and Mick Patrick, the brains behind several other volumes in Ace's much-admired Producer and Songwriter series.

With its title naming 3 record labels this is different to the usual Ace CDs in the Songwriter/Producer series as this team were not from the Brill Building but grabbed onto anything that was going and were not beneath using other peoples songs to manufacture their own. They were in the beginning 3 seperate writers and one of the first hits was Bobby Comstock's Let's Stomp-which was Let's Dance with different words.
They also recorded themselves as either the Strangeloves or the Sheep and were adept at creating different names for what was virtually the same act by members of girl groups appearing with others eg Patti Lace & the Petticoats (who were not the Petticoats from the Prep label)but Diane Christian was actually Patti Lace

As the Strangeloves they had 3 or 4 hit singles including I Want Candy which began as Bo Diddley until they decided to write new words so they could get the publishing

GREAT COMPOSERS!!! 3 Mar 2012
By Taufic Jorge Aranky Ortiz - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
FELDMAN, GOTTEHRER AND GOLDSTEIN WERE GREAT COMPOSERS. THIS COMPILATION IS VERY REPRESENTATIVE OF WHAT THEY DID FOR GROUPS LIKE THE ANGELS AND THE MC COYS, AND ALSO WHAT THEY DID BY THEMSELVES UNDER THE NAME "THE STRANGELOVES". BUT THERE WAS MUCH MORE THAT WE HOPE WILL BE INCLUDED IN A FOLLOW UP COMPILATION OF THESE GREAT COMPOSERS. THERE WAS MORE MUSIC WRITTEN FOR THE MC COYS, LIKE "DON'T WORRY MOTHER (YOUR SON'S HEART IS PURE)", "SORROW" WHICH WAS LATER COVERED BY THE BRITISH GROUP THE MERSEYS, AND "SAY THOSE MAGIC WORDS", WHICH WAS COVERED BY ANOTHER BRITISH GROUP THE BIRDS. BUT FELDMAN, GOTTEHRER AND GOLDSTEIN STARTED WAY EARLIER THAN THAT, WRITING MUSIC FOR THE ANGELS AND FOR THE LEGENDARY BOBBY VEE, FOR WHOM THEY WROTE SOME GREAT SONGS LIKE "BOBBY TOMORROW" AND "A LETTER FROM BETTY". PERHAPS THE RECORDING THAT IS VERY MUCH EXPECTED TO APPEAR IN ONE OF THESE COMPILATIONS IS THE VERSION OF THE CLASSIC "BECAUSE OF YOU" WHICH WAS RECORDED BY FELDMAN AND GOLDSTEIN UNDER THE PSEUDONYM "ROME AND PARIS" IN THE LATE 60'S. IN SUMMARY, THIS CD IS GREAT BUT MORE IS EXPECTED IN WHAT WE HOPE WILL BE RELEASED LATER ON AS THE FOLLOW UP TO THIS COMPILATION.
