I've been learning guitar from Justin, through his website and Youtube, for some years now and when he announced he would be releasing an album I felt kind of obligated to buy it. This guy has freely given so much to the world, and me personally, that he deserves some return. So I bought the album, even though I didn't expect to like it. I was very pleasantly surprised.
I normally like rocking tunes, and Justin has taught me how to play many of them, but he follows a different path with his own music. If you need a comparison then I guess Neil Young would be close but Justin is an original. The songs are meaningful and insightful without being mawkish and the quality of the production is stunning. This is a tender and beautiful album, full of feeling and humanity. Justin's skill at guitar is unquestionable but he sings well too and the other musicians involved are really excellent. The album sits together well as musical art, taking you on a journey through loss, warmth, sadness and joy, leaving you feeling uplifted. I love it.
