Great little book...,
By Andy B "Andy" (London, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way (Hardcover)
I think everyone should read this book, as it can apply to ANY area of life. It is based upon the principle of kaizen, and the book is divided into six key concepts:
- Ask small questions - Think small thoughts - Take small actions - Solve small problems - Bestow small rewards. - Identify small moments Each of these concepts is fully explained in its own chapter, and you can take the information from the page immediately (i.e. as soon as you have read and understood it) and begin to apply it to any area of your life -- whether you want to lose weight, learn a new skill, change a habit or whatever else... So many self-improvement books sell themselves on big ideas like 'transforming your life', but the approach taken by this book is much more down-to-earth. If you are motivated to make ANY type of improvement in your life, than I cannot see how you would NOT benefit from this book. Get yourself a copy without delay!

Business thinking applied to personal life,
By
This review is from: One Small Step Can Change Your Life: The Kaizen Way (Kindle Edition)
This useful little book applies principles first developed in factories in Japan to personal life problems. I found it interesting because it suggests that the easiest and most effective way to solve problems is by making very small changes. If you want to change your life don't try and do it all at once - find the smallest thing you can change and deal with that first. If you want to get into the habit of flossing your teeth every day - first of all start flossing one tooth and gradually work your way upwards. If you want to start exercising and don't have the time march on the spot when you're watching television for thirty seconds and gradually increase the time as you feel comfortable with that small amount of exercise.
So if you want to lose weight and think eating snacks in between meals is your problem throw away the first square of chocolate and eat the rest or throw away the first crisp out of the packet. If you want to improve a situation then ask a small question and establish a very small thing you can do to change it and do that. If you see something going wrong - put it right then and there - don't wait for something to become worse before you tackle it. For example if your roof appears to be leaking because there's a small damp patch on the ceiling - get it fixed. It will be cheaper and less hassle than waiting to see if it gets worse and having the ceiling come down after a rain storm. You don't need to make big changes to have an effect on your life. Every journey begins with a single step. I really enjoy reading self help books and reckon that if I only take on useful thing from each of them I shall probably improve my life. This book contains so much that is useful but its primary message is - don't make big changes all at once - change things in small steps. I know I shall keep going back to this book again and again.

One of the best books on goal achievement I have read. Shows how the little things, the small steps, taken consistently can truly transform your life. Plenty of good examples of how to put the technique into practice, well written and easy to read. Highly recommended.
